Who gets offered CAP/PACE?

Is it just people who admissions thinks are qualified? I’ve read that it’s only top 8-10% of in state students but I don’t think that’s realistic. Does anyone know how many students were offered it last year? Also, if you were offered it can you please post your stats? Thanks!

My nephew was offered CAP a few years back. He was in-state, in the top 15%. Not sure what it’s like these days, though.

According to the most recent CAP report on the website:

“The Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) is the University’s ongoing effort to avoid permanently “closing the door” on any Texas resident who has applied as a freshman.”

“The summer/fall 2013 freshman admissions cycle included 10,539 CAP offers; 1,981 of those students returned their CAP contracts. In the fall of 2014, 773 returned to Austin to enroll as transfer students at UT Austin. These students (n=773) are referred to as “CAP13” i.e., they were offered CAP in 2013 as freshmen and arrived in Austin in 2014 as transfers.”

CAP is offered to any Texas resident that meets minimum qualifications under the law. Non-residents are not offered a CAP that I am aware of. But as you can see, less than twenty percent accept the offer and roughly a third who do actually transfer.

PACE is more selective. It used to be offered to some applicants between the UT Austin auto percentage and the top 10 percent, but it seems in recent years it has been offered to others.
