Chances of LC 10th grade

Hello, I hope everyone has been doing okay over the holiday! I have been stressing about prep applications I was wondering if people could look at my stats in relation to loomis chaffee. I am applying for 10th grade (first time applying).

  • Honors Geometry and Honors Spanish 2 (math and spanish are the only honors classes for freshmen at my school)

*9th grade All A+
*8th grade A ranges
*4 years of high honors

*My Math teacher loves me and I actively participate and also talk to her after class

*English teacher loves me and let me read her rec and it was phenomenal. talked about all my extra curriculares how I am passionate about environmental studies and how I’m active in the community and in my newspaper (english teacher runs)

*Asked for an extra rec from my history teacher(I go above and beyond in her class I always participate and help my classmates and also talk to her after class)

*I sent my PSAT score 1170/1440 (it is PSAT 8/9 and it was in 96th percentile (SSAT was 54th percentile and I did not send)

*In my responses I talked about my love for the environment, friends and family. I wrote how my parents struggling when they first moved to the USA taught me the importance of hard work and determination. In my essay I talked about my experience being LGBTQ and how I plan on sharing my experiences to one day help other LGBTQ members.

*During my interview I was nervous and my interviewer sensed it and I feel like we connected. I emphasized the importance of friends and family for me (20 minutes long)

*EC: volleyball, tennis, figure skating, and newspaper

*Awards: Won essay competition, multiple gold medals in taekwondo, citizenship award, respect award, and student of the month

*I need 90% or more of FA and i’m a first gen student with romanian immigrant parents (apparently it can matter?)

You sound like a great student but like all great students, you need to fill a niche that the school needs. And 90% need make the niche prettily specialized. You don’t say a lot about what you bring to school EC-wise. IMHO the SSAT is significantly harder test because it compares you to boarding school applications and not general high school student. The PSAT score shows you to be a top high school student but you may be or may not be a top boarding school applicant. Essays and interview will be very important.

You sound like you would be a great addition to a school!
If you love Loomis, I’ll bet you would love many other schools. My strong suggestion, especially given the FA piece and 10th grade entry point, is to apply to a few more. Loomis is great, and we considered it strongly ourselves and loved it, but they aren’t crazy-uniquely positioned to offer something that no other school in the nation could. :). Widen the net is my suggestion, and include schools where 90% FA is a real possibility.
