Chances for me?

ok i have posted a similar one before but that was before ssat, interview, essays or anything. this is more complete :)

Age: 13
Grade:9
Applying for grade: 9
Boarding not Day
Race: Black
Country: One of the Caribbean Islands
Gender: Female
I will not need FA
SSAT: 94th percentile
EC's: volleyball (started this term), voice (6yrs), part of media group for about 3 years now i think (i dont have my list in front of me so no exact figures for years), community service, creative writing (4 years)
Applying to: Choate, Milton, Loomis.

Now I know these are all excellent schools but I really am aiming high. It is a big move to make so I want it to be the best of experiences if I get in. I think my interviews went alright. My interviewers were very friendly and I enjoyed the visit. I havent had my Loomis interview yet because the dates that we went up for the others werent available for Loomis so I will have to do a phone interview. I am still working on the essays but so far so good.

I know you cant give a definite answer, but I just want to see if I have a chance at these schools.

xoxcookie: Say what? Caribbean is such nice place to be. I live in new england and trust me, I hate the cold. There's so much snow and its so cold. Plus there aren't nice beaches like the carribbean.

Anyhow, schools like diversity, but don't expect that to help much. You should list like awards you got for your ec's because often times, schools look at quality over quantity. Anyone can have hundreds of ECs, but you have to be good at it to get an advantage over other applicants. No one can give you a deft. answer, but you probably have a fair shot at the schools. You probably have the highest chances at Loomis and Choate though.

You look acceptable but it is literally a magic 8 ball reading.

Yeah i have to agree with crickett2324 but I think you definitely have a chance....I wish i had your ssat score too! (i got and 80! TEARS)

tingting, and 80 isn't bad at all!!! I'd be happy with that score. :) haha

Thanx Jonathan, but i still feel so intimidated by everyone else's stats and it's also because i'm applying to some of the biggies so i feel depressed right now.

O and xoxocookie, can you tell us the awards you have won, if any?

People get in top schools with lower than an 80. Don't worry! :)

tingting, you are in the running for all of those schools, it is a ggrreeat score! dont be intimidated either. as for awards, i have passed the grade 1 theory exam with merit, my team won the u16 jv volleyball girls section in the christmas invitational concert in trinidad. there are a few others so i will post them later, i jsut dont have my app nearby.

thx so much...it makes me feel better :)
Those are good awards too so i'm sure that you have a good chance of getting in...especially since you also need no FA

I have an 84 overall and I'm applying to some top-nochers.
We're in the same boat, tingting!

well done cricket & tingting

Pshaw! FOR WHAT?! Completley bombing the reading section? Dang 72nd percentile.

You didn't bomb it as much as me. 42% in reading on my first try.

Choate for sure... Choate is awesome so I strongly recommend you go there!

lol sydyen09, i have to work on getting into the schools before i can make a decision like that :) one question: you know that loomis has this great writing program, does that mean that they try to encourage writers to come to the school or is it just that the writers tha they do accept should take part in the program? basically, does writing give you a stronger chance of acceptance?

You should be accepted to all 3 schools based on your posted info. Milton is especially anxious to enroll boarding students. St. Vincent?

I'd imagine if you're a good writer it would give you a better chance anywhere you apply. Think application essays. If its flippin' amazing then you'd have a stronger chance.

If Loomis sees your essay and thinks "Dang. This girl has skills!" then I'm sure it would be better. Writing related accomplishments and E.C.s would also be a plus for big writing schools.

thanks icy! and thanks for clearing that up for me crickett

*I meant "better odds". I re-read my post and I realized I sounded mentally deranged. Haha! Sorry!

icy9ff8, is it your impression that Milton is trying to increase its percentage of boarders?
