My entire life iv followed the UT football program from VY to the present day train wreck. Around last year i got into the academics of UT and said why not give a college i scream over every weekend a chance especially with the prestige it carries in the state of texas (where i hope to live when im older). I currently attend high school on Long Island, NY and im currently a junior. I had a pretty strong freshman year but really tanked my sophomore year(not trying to use an excuse but hurricane sandy destroyed my house and left me broken). I now have a 87.3 average unweighted and take all AP classes (US History, Physics, English) and take accelerated math which is a year up. Lastly i take scale business which is a college course offered at my HS. I play on finishing my year with a 89 average, having an SAT score of 2010, and an ACT score of 32. Although i thought this would get me in, i feel as if im around top 20% (asking guidance counselor tomorrow) and everyone tells me you need to be top 10% to even be considered out of state. I play 2 varsity sports and basketball in an AAU leauge. Im also a member of a ton of clubs and plan to be the leader of 2 next year. Since i know this is where i want to go and my visit reassured this, will i have a pretty goog chance of getting in with early admission or in general?

Lastly im considering attending a summer class there. Would they be beneficial to my chances?
Is voulenteer work that important since i have barley any but am willing to spend countless hours after the alemo bowl haha
Thanks for all answers

Hi I live in Texas and even if you’re a resident it is SO difficult to get into this school if you weren’t flawless in high school. On the collegeboard website one of the things they consider is residency so that already sets you back. Also on the collegeboard website it says the most important thing to them is class rank AND IT IS. In Texas there is a law where if you are in the top 9% you are automatically accepted to UT Austin and I would say UT is the most popular school so there just isn’t room for anyone who isn’t in the top 9% because they HAVE to accept all those people. I have heard a few few few stories of people who were in the 10 or 11 percentile of their class that had some crazy extra curricular or some remarkable story that got in but very few.
BUT on the plus side I would imagine UT has a quota they have to meet for out of state transfers so that would be beneficial to you and also your SAT is really high so you might have a chance. Honestly I may be biased but I feel like extracurriculars don’t even matter to this school (unless you are getting signed to their sports team) they only care about your class rank which is so stupid.
I would say apply and if you don’t get in you could always go to a CC in Austin (which would still be super fun Austin is v cool) that filters into UT.
Also I don’t know if the CAP Program applies to out of state residents but you could look that up as well it’s for students who aren’t accepted but go to a sister school their freshman year and they can attend UT Austin their sophomore year.
Good luck to you! I have lots of friends that are longhorns and they love it!

I apologize, I skimmed over your comment on Sandy. I think that might really help you out if you use that in one of your essays but everything else still stands.
