Chances of me getting off waitlist?

I got waitlisted from Fairfield U last week. And wondering how to improve my chances of getting off the waitlist?

(PS: almost everyone who applies to Fairfield gets waitlisted, not sure why. But can I have an explanation?

According to this, only 56 students were admitted from the waiting list last year, out of 1,118 who accepted a spot.

Oh wow. I did not know that.

Definitely communicate to your regional counselor (email probably best) you’re very interested in coming if taken off the waitlist and let them know of any updates - senior year awards, grades in second semester (as long as they’re good lol). Good luck!

@theloniusmonk yup! I did that. Sent them an e-mail a week ago, with my latest accomplishment and showing them how committed I am. Still no response, and Tuesday is the deadline for deposit. They really are irking my nerves

If Tuesday is the deadline for deposit, you won’t know until then or a few days afterwards

@theloniusmonk really? If possible, you think they will make a decision beforehand?

They may have already ranked their waitlist and will go down that ranking depending on how many admitted students are enrolling, i.e. how many many spots they’ll take off the list.

The best course of action is to deposit at a school you have been accepted to, is affordable, and would love to attend. If you get off the Fairfield waitlist consider it to be a bonus.

My friends D’s got off the waitlist a few years ago – she was called and given one day (I think) to decide if she would attend or not.

In terms of ranking people on a waitlist it is not always that easy. Sometimes (not always) waitlists are used to fill needs. For example if admissions knows that the orchestra needs a harp player and harp player who was accepted doesn’t attend they may look for another harp player to take off the waitlist. Or if they find the class turned out to have a a lot of females, they may decide to only take males from the waitlist. Bottoms line is just like admissions, you will never find out how people are chosen to come off a waitlist.

Good luck wherever you end up.
