Chances of NYU? Current HS Sophmore

I went to a private school for freshman year but it was more or less a public school that you paid for with a harder grading system. The teachers constantly declared themselves college professors (which they were not; most weren't even teachers) and would subsequently proceed to fail students at the drop of a hat (which hopefully is not a college professor thing). I had a 3.363 GPA for freshman year because of the school system.

For my Sophomore year I switched to the local High School and enrolled in all honor and the available AP class, which I did well in (93%). My GPA for the first marking period (report cards came out today) is 4.556 but because of my original low GPA I have a class rank of 56/237.

What I'm wondering is if these grades would be up to par with the standards of NYU. I'm a very strong writer (I wish to pursue a career in English and to be a screenwriter) so I'm confident my essay will be good, and I have done tennis (last year) and drama (this year).

I also scored in the upper 90% for my pre SATs.

With these attributes would it be possible for me to attend NYU?
What would I have to do to make my chances of getting in better?

Thanks, Jove

I assume a 90th percentile on the PSAT is like a 190-200 so I’ll assume 1900-2000 for the SAT.

For now: High match

If you can keep up the GPA you have for this year for the rest of your high school years, you have a better chance to get into NYU. Be prepared to take out loans or to have a lot of money to shell out, though, if you’re admitted.

Thanks so much. Do you know if there’s anyway to calculate where my cumulative GPA would be by the end of the year if I kept up my current grades? Does class rank matter?
