Should be good for UVermont and USouthern Vermont.

Burlington is a way cooler city--more progressive than Vancouver. It's funny, but a friend of mine is transfering from Clark College to schools that are very progressive like Earlham College, Hampshire College, Beloit College, Marlboro College (in Southern Vermont), Mt. Holyoke College, Smith College, Oberlin College, Sarah Lawrence College etc... She hasn't made up her mind as to which is her favorite as of yet. LOL.

You might want to take a look at a few of those schools too. My friend has a 3.5 gpa at Clark, was active in MSU, student government, and Phi Theta Kappa. She also did the Freedom to Marry Week, World AIDS Day, and goes to some QPA meetings. She's in the process of applying for transfer as I type. I'm her proof reader. Fun! :)

I agree with you that Vancouver, WA can be less progressive at times, though the Columbia and Willamette are beautiful. Portland is pretty cool, but I'm more of a East Coast/Midwestern guy. I found this out by accompanying my friend on a summer tour of colleges from the Midwest to the East Coast. She likes the East Coast as well.

Talk to Carrie W. Delaplane (not sure how that is spelled) at Clark. She worked at Marlboro in VT--Very open school. She can tell you more about VT, and the cities. I personally love how open, though still very white, Brattleboro (in Southern Vermont) is. I never had a problem (I'm of mixed ethnic heritage) when visiting friends and family. Burlington is very similar, but bigger. I think it has about 45,000 people.

In any event, good luck on your college search. And, enjoy being a Penguin, if only for the rest of the year. :)

P.S. UWisconsin-Madison is pretty cool too.
