Transfer Chances would be appreciated!

Hey everybody, just discovered the boards here. I'm really worried about transferring as I absolutely hate it here (UVM). I applied to Brown, Boston College, and Tufts and have all of my fingers and toes crossed. What do you think of my chances? (PS I was waitlisted at Brown last year, didn't apply to the other two)

800V, 720M
780 in writing, 690 USH, 720 math (1c i think?)

3.9 GPA in HS
4.0 after one semester here

three 4's, one 5 on my APs (took the hardest classes)

got some random book awards (one was the Brown Book Award, does this matter?)

Extra-Curriculars in high school are definitely a strength. I was the closing lawyer on the state champion mock trial team. I had leads in a couple plays, also was part of a summer-playwriting program. School co-president, tour guide, varsity sports etc. etc.

I'd say a weakness is that my only volunteer work is tutoring, and I participated in a few particular events, no extended jobs or clubs in this area.

The differences in my application are the mock trial success (we won the championship after i applied) and my essay. Last time i think my essay was too generic, about a role model. This time I wrote about coping with watching my father slowly die when I was younger, and how I value perseverance (tied this in to finding a better college, too). The 4.0 in college might help too.

Also, I was just cast in a play here, should I send that information to the schools even though I already sent my apps?

Thanks a million in advance!!!

what is UVM?

Sorry about that, University of Vermont. :)

Why are u at UVM in the first place? Your stats certainly merit much more.

oh my god i go to UVM and am applying to BC and Tufts too. This place sucks! Which dorm do you live in? Is that really creepy to ask online? UVM is university of vermont. we'll both get into tufts, haha it's a lot easier to transfer into, something like 33 percent get in. Something like 13 percent of transfers to BC get in though, not sure why it's so much more selective than freshman admissions. What is your major? did you take upper level classes?

I don't really know about Brown but I've heard it's transfer friendly.

UVM Sucks!! Haha, I hear you buddy...

hooooooooly cow thats funny! I just moved into Uheights (helllllls yes, gotta admit the new dorms are nice). there is NOTHING to do here. I'm in the Honors College, I'm taking 18 credits, half 100 level, half intro level. I'm a theatre/polisci major, do you think colleges will see theater classes as too easy (ps they ARE NOT; dramatic analysis shudder) How about you?

haha, Harris/Millis, 15 credits, intern for senator leahy but stupid f-ing god forbid you apply yourself UVM won't give me credit for it even though i do it for 12 hours a week. poli sci major, history minor, one int. level history class, one senior seminar in poli sci, one intro poli sci, one indepedent study with english and one stats class (intro) 3.73 first semester with a similar courseloud. I dont' think they'll think theatre classes are too easy esp since it's your major and you're obviously passionate about it or, well, you wouldn't be a theatre major. did you apply for poli sci at tufts or IR? I did IR.

and yeah, there really is nothing to do here. i'm really interested to see what the attrition rate is this year because every other person i talk to is trying to transfer.

I applied as a polisci to Tufts, I'm not as interested in IR (even though Tufts IR is so great). I'm really liking the ConLaw class I'm in now. For whatever reason domestic politics are more interesting to me. At least Harrymilly food is better than Simpson, I used to live on Redstone, bleh. Thats terrible that they wont credit your internship. This school annoys me.

BTW in response to futebolista i only applied to brown, georgetown, and uvm. I really thought I was going to get in to brown. I think my high school has a bad (and unfair) reputation, because a lot kids from other high schools in the area (whom we beat in mock trial, *****es) with lower stats got in. I also think my essay did nothing to distinguish me. Maybe lack of volunteer work? I dunno.

Umm...no offense but that is the riskiest application strategy I have ever seen. Anyway you have a good shot at Brown, but maybe it might be worth having one or two other reaches to hedge your bets? BTW - your stats aren't THAT high that you could bank on brown. I know plenty of sub 1500s who have been rejected.

Yeah I know its risky, but if I can't even get in to BC it's not even worth it because I have enough credits to graduate from here after 5 semesters. Also, about this: "I know plenty of sub 1500s who have been rejected." I got a 1520, 800 on the area that matters for what I'm going to be studying. so what do you mean? do you still think thats too low?

Oh sorry, I meant last year you were being risky. This year you are probably in at all your schools, you just might have considered adding another reach school to hedge your bets. But my bet is you are in at Brown. Good luck, brown is amazing. I also was wait-listed out of high school but got in as a transfer. Didn't end up going there, but I still love it and visited my friends there a bunch of times during college.

gotcha, thanks for the encouragement slipper. I appreciate it.

reis, why didn't you decide to apply to georgetown as a transfer? i'm applying there?

and skipping my awful intro to american gov class right now

I thought that I would get the same things out of Tufts. Plus everybody I know goes to school in New England. I'll probably do summer internships down there in the future, but I didn't want to stay down there all year.

To be honest though Gtown kicks the ++++ out of Tufts socially. Tufts has no real college social scene nor is it close enough to Boston that people hang out there. Gtown is in the heart of the DC social scene AND it has an amazing social life on campus.
