essentially, i’m applying to transfer at one/two of these schools for next fall.
i currently study at the University of Surrey in the UK, my GPA should convert to between 3.7-4.0 given my current grades (because they grade a lot harsher in the UK and we go on the honours class system). I have a 39 in the IB overall with 776 in my HLs (History, English A, and Econ respectively) my SAT are 650 for math and 640 for reading which isn’t the best but i try to make it up with my GPA and IB grades.
do you think this is enough to get into those schools? can someone tell me their experiences with these schools as well? Are the horror stories regarding transferring to McGill also true? They told me they give out decisions by June at the latest, but I’m really scared. If I get rejected I’m essentially homeless for next year lol
Also, is Western University also a good option to consider?
This is the easiest part of your question to answer. Yes, Western is a very good university.
There are in fact quite a few very good universities in Canada. The most famous ones (McGill, Toronto, UBC) are very well known, but there are probably at least 20 other very good universities to consider, and perhaps 30 or more if you also consider some smaller schools and depending upon your major.
I do not know how to interpret IB grades. Based on your SAT if you really want to get into a university in Canada I would recommend that you consider other schools in addition to the “top 3”.
One place to look is the macleans university rankings. Alternately, let us know what your major is, what you can afford, whether you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or citizen of France, and what part of Canada you might prefer. There are multiple people here on CC who can suggest some other schools.
Your grades are excellent. Western is a good university. Your chances will depend on what program you are applying for. Some programs take no transfer students.
