Chances of Transferring OUT of Computer Science Into Another Impacted Major

Hello! I apologize if this question has been asked recently; I checked the first few pages of this forum, but didn’t find it.

I’m a new admit to UC San Diego, in Computer Science (Jacobs School of Engineering). UCSD was my favorite match school, and I’d be very happy to attend it, though I’m still waiting for a few more decisions.

I’ve heard of the difficulty of transferring into the engineering college, or into engineering majors, but not of transferring from one to another or one to a very different major. My questions are these: If I decide I don’t want to pursue computer science, how difficult would it be to transfer into Structural Engineering, another impacted major in the same college? How difficult would it be to transfer into Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts? (Alternatively, is that a realistic major to pursue in the interests of masters programs and the job market?)

If it matters any, I’m an Asian female.

Thank you for your time!

Since Structural Engineering and CS are in different engineering departments, you’d have to apply after three or six quarters to get into the Structural Engineering program, same as everyone else. Acceptance is based on GPA in the prerequisite courses and the number of open spots.

ICAM is a non-impacted major, so you need to click one button to transfer in.

So for SE it’s no different from transferring in from a non-impacted major? Or no different from transferring in from letters and sciences?
