I would like to transfer in fall 2007 in a Chinese major, and I think I would like to attend UCI or UCLA. As of summer 2005 I have 73.5 transferable semester units (all from California junior colleges) and a 3.83 GPA, but I won't be done with IGETC until summer 2006, and my major prep until spring 2007. That means I may have around 100 units by the time I'm done with the JCs. (Other info: I'm an underrepresented minority, first-generation college student, and have 8 Ws, especially in 2004, during which I got only Ws and completed no classes. I've been going to JCs part-time since 2000, and dropped out of HS in 10th grade.)

I became concerned about possible unit limitations after I read this thread, so I wonder if anyone knows whether that would be a problem with those schools, and if anyone can offer opinions on what my chances of admission would be. Thanks in advance.

On assist.org, it says that IGETC is recommended for this major, and in the UCI catalog, it says that GEs can be satisfied via IGETC. I think bio sci would be a different case than a major in humanities which doesn't have nearly as many prereqs.

I have a lot of units because I once was considering majoring in Japanese, so I finished all of the prereqs for that, and also followed part of the TAG for UCSD before I decided not to apply there.

Yeah they have an interesting way of dealing with too many units from a CCC... Basically they're going to chose to ignore some of them exist. You must complete a set amount of units at the (I'm using UCLA since that's the one I know best) UC you attend.
