Chances of UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC

I am from Troy, Michigan (so out of state for UCLA/UC Berkeley), however my dad lives in California, don't know how much that will help. If I attend UCLA/Berkeley, I will be applying for in-state tuition since my dad has been living in Long Beach for 4 years and I plan on making California my home. I am Indian-American, and I am currently a senior in high school.

My personal statements were good I think, about how my dad living away in California affected my life/ made me a stronger person and about how I want to be a game designer.

Majors:

UCLA: Computer Science 1st choice, Undeclared Humanities 2nd choice I think
USC: Interactive Entertainment 1st choice, Computer Science (Games) 2nd choice
UC Berkeley: Media Studies

As you can see, I REALLY want to attend college in California. I've always visited California as a kid and really want to live there.

So what are my chances for UCLA/USC/UC Berkeley? Those are my top 3 college choices and the only schools in California I applied to.

Also, I have so far been accepted to the University of Michigan, if that helps. And I attend a very good public school in Michigan.

Thanks.

Yes! You definitely have a very very good chance of getting into UCLA, UC Berkeley, and USC. You have a very high GPA, Outstanding test scores, a ton of EC’s, many awards. If you did well on your personal statements, then you have a very high chance of getting accepted to these three universities. Your academics and EC’s will really stand out of all other applicants, Im sure of that. Best of luck to you!!! Hope you get accepted.

Hmmm, your father living in California won’t have any effect.

Are you aware of the averages for the UC’s last year?

Your UC GPA seems to be on track, your SAT score is a little lower than average.

And, remember its the best score on a SINGLE SITTING, not SUPERSCORE.

I do not think you have a very very good chance of getting into these prestigious schools.

You are still a minor reach imo, mostly considering your OOS.

Yes, my SAT score is for a single sitting.

But won’t my ACT score make up for my lower SAT score? I saw a comparison chart and a 32 ACT is equivalent to about a 2190 on the SAT…

Thanks for chancing guys!

yes, definitely use the ACT score. considerably higher (and the school will take your higher score for admissions consideration)

i’d say low reach/match for USC, because you attended their summer program. your ACT score is good enough to fit into the middle 50%, but that doesnt really compensate for your lower UW GPA.

the UCs are taking more out of state kids this year (darn economy), but it’s still going to be a low reach for both. UC gpa doesnt stand out (if you were in state, it would, but the competition for OOS is just that much harder)

Doesnt my ACT score put me at the top of the middle 50% though? And wont the colleges take into account the grade trend (frosh year sucked)?

Does anyone know the average stats for out of state students are? Is it really that much harder for OOS students?

Sorry but I am just so nervous about this. I REALLY want to go to college in California

Your ACT scoring is excellent for these colleges. If you are considered OOS, the UCs will be a reach for you. USC will probably still be a reach, esp since your asian. You have a chance though.

hmm. i think you have a fine chance.

plus, the fact that your GPA rose from freshman to junior year is a good thiing, theyll see it as an improvement and junior year is usually harder. :]

Alright, thanks for chancing guys.

Anyone Else?

Troy High is a great public high school, yeah.

And your stats look pretty good to me.

Good luck!

Haha yeah Troy High is a good school, we send like 80-100 kids to the University of Michigan each year and 5-15 kids to ivies each year as well

This is the Troy High in Michigan though, not the Troy High in California. The Troy High in Cali is, from what I’ve heard, even better.

Also, which is harder to get into, UCLA or UC Berkeley? I’ve heard Berkeley but I just wanna confirm. And have there been any cases where people have been rejected from UCLA but accepted to Berkeley?

Thanks.

idk, your GPA is a little bit low, but you have a very rigorous course load and a good ACT score. in my mind, those schools are toss-ups, but I’d imagine you’ll get into atleast one of them. good luck

Alright, thanks.

Does anyone know if UCLA does a freshman questionnare thing like Berkeley does for borderline students?
