What are my chances at any of the UC's? (preferrable the elite ones)

Ok sorry..I attend Berkeley right now actually (class of 2008)..

I was accepted to all of the UCs and got the Regents' Scholarship to three of them--so think i might be able to help u out (at the risk of sounding arrogant)

I have to ask--what is the new SAT about-- what exactly is 1850 out of 2400???/I mean percentile-wise???

aznballerlee:

UCLA/UCB: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCD/UCSB/UCI: Safe Match
UCSC/UCR/UCM: Safety

who so forgiving flopsy? b/c of the SAT II's?

UCLA and UCB will be a reach for you. Everywhere else you will have no problem...just make sure to write good essays! If you want LA or CAL, bump that SAT I score to atleast 2000

whoa whoa whoa whoa...just because of his SAT's its a reach? yea...me think so too. GPA (assuming UC GPA) is awesome. SAtII :awesome. extra curricular...eagle scout tells all as well as his 200 hour community service. but SAt..if you do get over 2000, you should be a match.

who so forgiving flopsy? b/c of the SAT II's?
You have excellent breadth of extracurriculars.

The low SAT 1 and not being in top 10% of class makes Cal and LA reaches. Only maybe 5% are not in top 10% and you can bet they're athletes.

What you have to understand is that a 4.25 at a school where it does not put you in the top 10% is not a "great" GPA by top UC standards.

The great SAT IIs will help and really write a great essay. I'd say you're shot at a top UC is probably UCSD.

bte 1850 sat is like 1200-1280 ish. About 80 something percentile.

hmm 1200-1280? That's probably not going to get u to Cal or LA... * I think the average is about 1350 or so???

But You have a good shot at UCSD I'd say.

what do reaches mean? what % chances?

and so only a boost to 2000 for SAT would get me into ucb and ucla?

Not "would", might. Read this year's boards. Many 1500s were rejected.

Again much will rest on GPA relative to your school (rare to be under 10%, most under 5%) and your essay.

IMO, your chances at the top 2 now are under 20% and maybe 35% at SD.

wow. 35 %. and i thought SD would be a safety.

SDs bio majors may be even harder to get into than Cal and LA's.

Your GPA I could somewhat understand. I have a friend who has the same gpa as you, but lower ranking just because the guys that go there are just too smart. UCB is somewhat a little weird this year with acceptances. I know a person who was accepted that had ~1280 and a 3.8 gpa with regular classes. He didn't have much or if not any that I know of EC's. Based on my experience UCLA and UCSD tend to accept people with stats like yours.

UCLA and UCB = match/slight reach
UCSD = safe match
everything else = Safety

bring up the sat...
