also, both of my parents got their phD or masters from texas. will this help me?
Thanks so much for your help everyone!

What school are you looking at attending? What are you passionate about?

UT can’t any longer make official legacy enrollments, but familiarity with UT and its traditions is a help on the personal side of the 50%personal 50% academic evaluation. UT is proud of its history and playing to that has been know to help.

We are a UT family with folks going back a couple of generations, working on getting daughter and nephew into UT, but it is much harder for out of state folks than it used to be. Focus on what you are passionate about and you’ll improve your odds.

My son got in OOS from Maine - he is the first in the fourth generation of our family to attend. We thought he must be the only one, then we learned that another young man, who lives literally two miles from us, off the same main road, also got in!

I don’t think legacy helps you at all. Think about it - 50,000 students a year, that’s a lot of graduates! People are also surprised that I didn’t get to attend UT for free since my dad was a prof there. Again, there are SO many professors at Texas, that would be a lot of tuition being given away for free!

I’m applying to the School of Communications, which I hear is very competitive in admission. My first choice major is pre-Journalism, and my second is Radio-TV-Film. Does this make admission for me significantly harder?
