Chances on any University

Hey, so, during all my years of high school thus far, ive been plagued with lack of motivation, interest, and generally, an I dont give a f*** attitude. But, I had a change of heart, and slowly, and surely, I have been improving my grades. However, I'm really scared that my past is really going to bite me hard when I apply for colleges come next year (I'm a Junior currently). By all means, I'm stupid for not giving school my best, and I regret that and all, but I just think its too little, too late.

So, my Grades, weighted:
Freshman year: First Semester - 1.8; Second - 2.1
Sophomore Year: Frist Semester - 3.4; Second - 3.0
Junior Year w/ 3 AP classes: First Semester - 3.2; Second - Currently 3.8

Sat Scores (I plan on having a 3rd go):
First attempt - 1680
Second Attempt - 2050

EC's:
Boy Scouts - 4 years (Eagle Scout)
2 Years Varsity Badminton (Sophomore and Junior, do I include Senior cause the season is in spring.)
4 Years as Keyclubber. (currently the President-elect, taking office in april)
~300+ community service hours, id have to check, but I could be above 400 hours, and could def hit 500+ by the time apps are due.
There is a alot of other trash I can add here, but it would just be littered with stuff.

So, is there a chance of getting into a university? I live in California, and would like to stay in-state, and from reading other threads, I don't seem too far off. But what schools would I have a chance at? I would be able to get some fantastic letters of recommendations from some of my teachers (who are often frustrated that i dont apply myself enough), my Scoutmaster, my club advisor (who is our city's Ciziten of the Year), and possibly the congressman from my district, whom I worked on my Eagle Scout project with.

Other somewhat important information:
-I've been arrested. Twice. (do I have to include this on my app? will I work for or against me?)
- Did this summer school think at UC Berkeley for a few years. Don't know what it was really, but I needed teacher reccomendations and such, and I got high school credit.
- I have a few Ds and an F. Should I be replacing those with online classes? The F was in Biology my freshman year, but I have an A now in AP Bio, what do I do with that?

So year, hopefully, not too long of a read, but since my situation is rather unique commpared to my friends and such, I thought it would be good to get a head start on the applications process. Also, pointers for what I should do my senior year would be great. I'm currently planning to enroll to 2 AP classes(Government + E Sci, Im also taking the AP exam for Psychology), with a possible 3rd.

Feel free to ask for any info, sorry for the long read

You definitely have shown strong improvement and your SAT is very strong. You should make sure to explain your situation to any college you apply to. Arrests must be known where you apply, but this does not mean you will not be accepted. There are DEFINITELY colleges out there who would be glad to accept you. You should look at UC Riverside as well as UC Irvine if you want to stay in-state. Hope that helps

you show very strong improvement. kick it into high gear and see where it takes you, you still have time.

You don’t have to list arrests, only convictions, as far as I know.

I don’t know anything about California, but you might want to consider an honors program at a two year college and then transfer to a four year. That way, your HS GPA will not be considered and if you continue your upward trend, you should get into a decent school.

My son is similar to you except that his overall GPA is about 3 and on its way down because he doesn’t give a hoot about HW. His SAT should be about yours, based on his PSAT. I only mention this because my plan for him is to have him attend a local 2 year and then transfer. Your chances of getting into a top school (other than the top Ivies) can actually improve as a transfer and your degree comes from where you spend the last 2 years.

try the lower UC’s (Davis, San Diego, Riverside, Irvine, Santa Barbara, Merced etc.), and the Cal-State schools (Long Beach, Fullerton, San Francisco). You WILL DEFINITELY get into one of those schools…

I’d say just get your ass into gear and try your hardest for the rest of this year and next. You may still have time. Good luck.

Chance me?
