Would really like to get into UT. No matter what. My chances are low, so I would like to know my chances for the CAP program. I already got into UTD, but I don't want to enter as a transfer student (UTD does not offer CAP). Please be honest. And tell me what I need to do to get into CAP or even UT.

Oh, and I plan on majoring in Computer Science, so what are my chances on getting into CS program at austin through transfer/CAP.

Yes you could be offered CAP. I knew someone with a 1600 who got capped and they had a low class rank, with an unimpressive GPA. But computer science is a competitive major, so I don’t know if you would be able to go into that major, that might be a problem.

thanks! and I forgot to mention that my rank is horrible since i transfered high schools. It’s 397/598

The person I knew who got capped and was in the bottom third, which in your class size would be equivalent of 448 of 598. He had a 1610. he was applying as a history major and ended up at UT Tyler for CAP.

What major is best to apply for? I’m thinking of General Studies of Natural Science. I just want to get admitted and since all freshman classes are the same, I was thinking about that.

I’ve heard undergraduate studies and liberal arts. I don’t know about natural science. Good luck!

I think you have a great chance to get into the CAP program. Even if you didn’t get into the CAP program, I know of someone who went to a UT satellite school their first year or two (like UTD or UTSA) and got in. I’m not sure of what their exact GPA was, but I THINK it was on the mid-to-low scale. But in all, I don’t see why you should not get CAPPED. Good luck!

Thanks! I was wondering does major play a big role on CAP? I’m applied as a Comp Sci major and was wondering if it effects it.

And when I meant 1600, i meant out of 2400…

@Rookie123 I don’t think that majors are evaluated when you are CAPPED. However, even though you didn’t do so hot on your SAT, I would change your major to COLA or UGS because you would have an even better shot of getting in if you would have a high score on your ACT. Also, if you have a good score on your ACT and have a lot of EC’s and college credit, then you could be considered for PACE as well.

I have also heard that all Texas applicants that have not received admission to UT or the PACE program, have been offered CAP…however, I am not completely sure of this. Just try your best and shoot for UT or PACE program. Also, I am sure that it is not too terribly late to try again on your SAT. Maybe re-test and aim for a higher score?

Where did you hear this? I was talking to the UTSA admissions person, and he said I have a high chance I can get in. So the worst case is, I won’t get offered CAP and transfer to UT as a transfer student. Where did you hear that? You just made me feel a lot better haha!
