Chances on the Waitlist?

I was waitlisted at WashU despite my family connection. Does anyone know how long the waitlist is, and what the chances are of getting in off of it?

Ditto --- anyone know?

My daughter's year (she is a current sophomore) they accepted NOBODY from the waitlist, and were overenrolled by a large number. This made it difficult for Res Life to fit all the freshmen into the dorms (though they did.) I read somewhere that the school would utilize waitlist more for future classes to ensure that they didn't overenroll, and perhaps they'd accept smaller classes than usual. The housing issue is compounded by the fact that they are tearing down one of the old dorms, and will be short an entire building for a year.

So... it is my belief that chances aren't very good unless they waitlisted a ton more people than normal. But then again, maybe they did since they sorely don't want to overenroll.

It all depends upon how many of the accepted students choose to attend.

In order to avoid overenrollment last year, WashU accepted fewer candidates initially and then used the waitlist to carefully manage the ultimate class size. So, last year they did take a number of people off the waitlist. Perhaps they are using that same strategy this year and will be accepting students off the waitlist again. Good Luck all!

The year that NUGrad talks about the only way they could fit everyone in the dorms was to bribe sophomores to move into university-owned housing that's sort of off campus by offering them stuff like free cable, and tripling some doubles. My S, also a sophomore, ended up in a tripled double. But it was a handicapped room, and we got there first so he got to choose to have the unbunked bed, so it worked out fine. The bathroom was actually huge and he loved Koenig.

ive been waitlisted too! i dunno if i should accept their offer! they shud hav just rejected me or taken me in!

I have a friend that got in off the waitlist last year, but that's all I know of.

I HATE their first line

I am writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has decided to offer you a place

and then im all excited then all of a sudden

on the wait list for the freshman class entering next fall at Washington University

sons of Bs.. grrrrrrrrrr

^totally agree

^^^^^^^^^^

OMG, that was sooo mean...haha

yea...i guess you can laugh if you were accepted... :(

lol....but it is kinda funny

on the acceptance letter they're actually one of the few schools kind enough to make the very first word Congratulations....

In my opinion, the waitlist this year is unusual. I go to the #3 school in the nation, so a lot of people applied to WashU. I know of one kid with a 4.52W GPA and a perfect 36 on his ACTs who got waitlisted just like me. It's really weird how many ridiculously qualified applicants got waitlisted. I think it has to be a yield rate issue. I can't see this being a regular trend.

They waitlist the people with the best stats on purpose because they figure they will end up at another school. People with stats like that come off the waitlist easily if they really wanted to go to the school. WUSTL is actually known for waitlisting their insane candidates.

I totally agree about the waitlist letter!
I was about to start screaming and then I saw "... on the wait list". Grr... lol.

Regarding Sheed's post, I was also waitlisted but I have mixed stats. I'm an international with great GPA & TOEFL scores but really mediocre SAT I and SAT II scores (for the most part, lower 600's). Oh, and I also have a massive financial need.
So I'm not quite sure about their waitlisting only ppl with stellar stats but certainly feel happy that I still have some hope left at WashU. :)

I even told my mom that I got in there, but after finishing reading the sentence fully, I was like Oh sorry mom, I am waitlisted! Be careful haha

^^ LOL, I did the EXACT same thing!!!

Does anybody has any idea on the number of internationals
offered admission from the waitlist in previous years?

Wash U has about the longest waiting list ever. that's my unofficial impression from people who have applied last year from my hs.

What I have heard from previous years is that WashU is known to be less "need blind" than it says they are. Thus, they must've waitlisted some people whom they were hesitant would not pay the full bill, qualified applicant or not.

If that's the case, then, then I think I got screwed...I got waitlisted as well, and there was no way that I could've paid the full tab. Oh well. I'll just wait 'til April to hear from my other schools as well.
