Hey, first time posting on CC, but been lurking here forever.
Never the less; I have horrid stats due to major earthquake in which we lost almost all of our family (9th to 10th), homelessness due to parents losing their jobs, and PTSD + stress/anxiety (especially with tests) during my junior year. I have already had an interview with USC.
Stats:
GPA: 3.3~3.5 UW; W - not sure
SAT: 1330; 1650
SAT II: Bio: 540 Math II: 600 Japanese: 740
ACT: 23
APs:
AP Government - taking
AP Chemistry - 3
AP Japanese -5

ECs: Gymnastics and Ballet for 10 years
Japanese Club, National Honors Society - 9th grade only, had to leave due to circumstances
Chinese Club, FBLA (4th place in Cyber Security), DECA, Chess Club, Astronomy, Key Club

Essays: Great
Recs: Excellent (let GC know about my situation, great teachers were glad to accept to do my recs)

Hooks: 600+ hours in community service, first generation, interview, multilingual in four languages, Black-American

I know I'm writing a letter of extenuating circumstances (since my transcript shows an upward trend first semester of 9th grade, then it all went down, then back up starting senior year)

Mmm, if anything else; any CCs that have high transfer acceptance rates to USC? It's been my dream school, and I'm willing to move to CA for that. Trying to avoid it since CC is looked down upon within my family and I will not have any financial help from them if I do.

Never the less, thank you!

It’s far difficult to chance your unique circumstances. Academically, you’re way too below the median. That being said, USC is known to take a LOT of transfers, especially from CCs in California.

Also, you’re a Black American with Japanese families?

I don’t think your GPA is horrible but that SAT is quite low, maybe try retaking it? I’m applying to USC with unique circumstances as well, and was told by a USC that they do review admissions with compassion in regards to what an applicant has gone through. Your ECs are great btw!

@GoodNightNell; No. My parents are both from Haiti. Japanese is one of the languages I’m almost fluent at. French was my first language so I thought it would be unique if I did Japanese for SATs, since you aren’t allowed to take two languages in one sitting.

Also, can you recommend me any CCs in particular?

@blueflowers; I’ll attempt to. I know when I had my amazing interview with one of the admissions officers, they were really surprised about my ECs. So eh. Thank you!

I shall bump - trying to keep hopes up c:

Are you currently applying to USC for regular admission? If so, I hope you get in! I’m applying there too! If not, you really should! Just write above standard essays and put down all your EC’s. Your involvement is amazing by the way! :-)

I’ve also been lurking on here for about a year and a half but have never posted either.
Anyway, I think you have a genuine shot. You have a very unique story, and very extenuating circumstances that are extremely forgiving, because you’ve made the best of what you have and have definitely overcome adverse circumstances.
