I would say u have an around average chance of getting in. You have very competitive scores (what APs have you taken before senior year, if any ???), nad ok, but not astonoshing extra-curricus. 1 ?. How are you doing AP Calc AB and diff eq (a post calc BC class) in 1 year??? Did you learn calc over the summer? Then why are you taknig AB?

So I have about a 10% chance since I'm a male. Pre-Calc is the only pre-requiste at my school. I don't know how. You are about the 10th person to ask me that. LOLS. But I really would love to study at MIT. I have always been obssesed with math and science. Is there anyway to stress stuff like published research and my commitment to the sciences?

Diff eq doesn't really require anything you learn in BC. AB is fine as a co-req. You have better than avg chances, since you'll be the first in your family to get a 4-year degree. Maybe if you work something about your abusive dad too. Your application will be really good if you publish also.

for a second I thought Princeton Review = College Board... (requested a score report earlier today and noticed they were in Princeton, NJ).. and was about to blow up on you for being a traitor.

Oh wow Lols. Will EA be a big boost?

I am pretty sure I will publish. All my mentors previous students have published. The issue is when will it be published. Would a note from my mentor saying it will be published be sufficient?

One thing I am worried about is that I heard BC is an absolute must if offered for MIT? Can anyone confirm if this is true> I am going to self study the BC material but I can't really prove that.

if BC is offered they'd want you to take it. if it's not, don't worry about it unless one condition: math is your niche. if it's not then don't self-study it in my opinion.

It is offered.

so why aren't you taking it?

it's kinda weird if you take AB with linear alg/diff eq.

if your school's linear alg/diff eq only requires precalc, that's pretty weird. You have to take calc up to D to take either of those classes at my local CC (calc bc is only half of C, so 1 more year of calc before those. there are other people that goes to other places, but they all took at least calc BC)
You should take calc BC, cuz you know you'll get credit for those for college at least. Not all colleges give credit for linear alg/diff eq taken in hs.

I didn't get into Calc Bc for some weird reason. I am pretty sure I aced the Calc placement test.

haha, I knew the math department head pretty well through math contests and stuff so he just signed something for me to skip pre-calc to go to calc bc (along with a couple other math kids).
my friend tried to do that the year after, but that teacher retired, so my friend was suppose to take some placement test, then the new math department head got too lazy and let him skipped anyways. (GAH run-on)

anyways, it's your responsibility to figure what why you didn't get into that class. just find out what's the problem, and see if there is anything you can do.

I got 1 c in math but that was because family problems. So you think if I asked my mat teacher to help get me in she would agree?
Rattien is leaving and there will be a new math department head next year/

You should discuss with your math teacher if you want to take it. (most teachers won't let you skip because if you screw up, it's gonna be their fault)
my school have this parental override form for those that want to take classes that the school couldn't officially just give it to them for liability issues, like freshmen taking Calc BC or like skipping chem honors completely for Chem AP.
but I think the C in math might be the reason. we don't have placement tests, but you have to have at least b+ to get recommended to the higher level math route. Family problems might not be a good enough reason to the school for C in math, because it doesn't prove that you are qualified.

am i making sense?
Just talk to your the math department head to see what you can do.

I personally think calculus bc has a great curriculum. All the things i learned were really interesting and i totally see myself using it in physics and solving random problems. it's my favorite math class! i got to say , stats is also pretty interesting, a different ways of looking at values and data. I think uou should consider taking calculus BC if you are applying to MIT (it's not required or anything, just something good to have taken before you go to college. for some majors at other colleges, you don't have to take ANY math if you taken calc BC in hs)

Will AB and Linear Algebra hurt me?

These are my math grades

Geometry-99
Geometry-99
Honors Trig-92
Honors Trig-75
Pre Calc-93
Pre Calc -95

Wait. How do you learn diffeq w/o BC?
Series solution to differential equations????
Laplace requires some integration that AB dosnt teach.
Fourier series might reqiure some complex things not in AB (mayb not in BC either).
EDIT - and 75?? Is that a typo 95?

No i said 75. Its my only really poor grade. Yes I know. It sucks.

well it's not gonna HURT you, but i think it would be better if you take calc bc and take calc before linear algebra. somethings are easier to learn with calc even if its not required.
my stats class, only like algebra two is required or something, but all the extra credit are like proving the formulas. many of the proofs required calculus. same goes for physics. You don't have to have calculus for physics classes, but sometimes things are easier to solve and understand with calculus. But by no means should not having calculus keep you from taking a class (unless it was a prereq.) . Calculus can give you a different level of understanding. (anyone feel the same way as me?)

You're a typical MIT applicant. Slightly higher test scores, but stereotypical, dull ECs. I'm not going to chance you, but you certainly stand a chance at admission, to be honest, it's a game of luck now.

Hey, are you low income? I wonder how MIT would treat a low income Indian? Probably not something they see everyday.

There are many low income applicants from India. I don't know how MIT treats financial aid for international students though.
