Chances Please?

-Ok, well, according to the way I calculated by UC GPA ( A= 4, B=3, C=2...), I have a 3.83.

-My weighted GPA (adding 1 point/ semester for honors classes), was 4.16

-I expect a 2100+ on the SAT.

-Varsity tennis all 4 years of HS

So, do I have a chance at Berkeley? Both ED and RD please. Thanks a lot.

There is a chances thread stickied above.

Berkeley does not have ED, or any early program for that matter -- only RD.

Are you in-state or out-of-state? Either way, I would say it's a reach. If your UC GPA really is 3.83, then it's quite a bit below average for Berkeley (only UC-approved honors courses get extra weight). Your ECs aren't quite up to par for Berkeley.

Kyle, thanks for your thruthiness. But, by UC weighted GPA is 4.16, not 3.83. Thats the UW one (but calculated by the way Berkeley does it).

What's this?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=378650

Thats with freshman year (in which I did the worst) and calculated the way my school does it, not the way UCs do it.

Your unweighted GPA or 3.83 is still below Berkeley's avg. SATs are avg. ECs are below avg. I'd say it's a reach, prob a match if your essays are awesome.

Ok, thanks guys.

gpa is right on average. sats if you get 2100+ will be above average since berk avg is just a tad above 2000. ECs...its alright. if you can pitch it really well then youll be fine. and this is assuming your in state. if your outta state then its a reach

GPA is NOT right on average. The average UC GPA for Cal is 4.2, while he only has a 3.8. I say no.

I got in with 3.5/3.7, so from my perspective, you definitely have a chance. Work hard on those essays. :)

i think your weighted gpa is a match. work hard towards 2200+. Ecs and essay for ucs don't really mean much. sat is much much more important.

Well, you can't really make a generalization based on one case (that case being your own).

Weighted GPA and UC GPA are not the same (weighted is usually higher, unless the person did not exceed the 8-semester cap). Berkeley's average UC GPA is 4.25 (or so), which is higher than the OP's W GPA.

His question, "So, do I have a chance at Berkeley?", is extremely vague, so I give him a vague answer, "yes".

OMG HE HAS A 4.16 WHEN THE AVERAGE IS 4.2 = INSTANT REJECTIOn

Obviously, I don't think that's the correct UC GPA. If that's the W GPA, then the UC GPA will be even lower. And UW is 3.5 -- the average UW GPA for Berkeley is 3.9. See the difference now? (I thought that was understood when I said, "Berkeley's average UC GPA is 4.25 (or so), which is higher than the OP's W GPA.")

He said his UC GPA is 4.16. Because the average is 4.25 isn't going to make a difference.

Berkeley's avg. SAT for this year's frosh class was a 2070, and GPA was a 3.93.

What is so difficult to understand about what I'm saying? I do not think the UC GPA is correct. From the other thread, the GPA is a bit too low.

i think it is reasonable to say that uc gpa and the weighted gpa for 10-11 are about the same...

why do you expect 2100+ when you guys have 2200???
