Will my gpa kill my chance?

I'm going to be a junior next year and if I get straight As next year, I'll only have a 3.85 (possibly 3.88 if I take summer school, but that's pretty unlikely because I will probably be volunteering somewhere). I have good enough ecs and my SAT is a 2230. Looking at the average gpa at Berkeley, my chances look pretty slim as I am 0.04 below it, and as the average gpa has been rising steadily, have I lost all chances of getting into Berkeley? If I'm not completely hopeless, are the chances slim?

Uh… You have a shot at Berkeley. Not a great shot, but a good shot.
50% of admits have a GPA below the average…
Your SAT score is also significantly (around 180 pts) above the Berkeley average.

Stats for this year’s admitted class are 3.89/4.36/2068. What are your classes and ECs?

Also keep in mind that UC’s consider a GPA different from your overall unweighted/weighted. I believe it includes only A-G courses from sophomore and junior years. At the time I applied, my overall weighted was only around 4.06 but my “UC” GPA was around 4.30.

@ryanpeden94 ye, that is my uc gpa.

My weighted gpa will be a 4.3?? I think if I get straight As next year. I’ve taken 3 aps this year and will be taking 3 next year. My ecs are:

2x semifinalist for the united states biology olympiad (top 10%)
top 10% for some national chemistry competitions
2 years of ocean sciences bowl
1 year of science olympiad
200 hours of volunteering

Actually, I think I might be able to find time this summer to take some online ap courses to raise my gpa. If I do, I can get a 3.88 uw gpa and a 4.36 weighted gpa. What would be my chances then?

Eh… Do something more interesting over the summer, like research or an internship.

Your GPA is fine as it is.

A few points off or above is not going to make a big difference. I would focus on your personal statement & list of EC. Don’t worry too much!

Cal seems to focus on GPA more than SAT. Do you have any hooks such as first generation college, URM (Hispanic, African-American, American Indian), low income, overcome obstacles, etc? You have a lot of volunteering hours. Is there any particular area that you focused on?
