i'm an out of state resident. asian, and first generation college student. i'm a permanent resident which means i'm not a US citizen. sat's SUCKEDDD. 530 math, 420 writing, 470 reading .. gpa is around 3.5 unweighted. 64/234 class rank. didn't take any high level/honor/advanced classes except i'm taking pre-calc right now and next semester, as well as advanced chinese next semester. fluent in mandarin chinese. no sports. no extracurricular. unless you wanna count my job at a restaurant for 4 winters in a row as EC. .. maybe 40-50 hours of community service. ughh. how am i looking? T_T i'm so scared. umass is one of my top choice. although it'll probably cost a fortune. btw, to the people that went there, is there a good amount of asians in that school? i really wanna go to a big school with a large population of asians. :P i know there's the DBJ dance group. i really wanna join it!

I would honestly retake the SATs if it’s not too late. UMASS doesn’t look at the writing section, but that still only puts you at a 1000/1600 composite score. To be competitive you’d have to present at least a 1170.

You GPA is competitive IF you have not included electives in the GPA.

There is a residential area with a large population of Asians if you opt to live there.
