First thing’s first:
I’m 1 of 16,000 National Merit Semifinalists. In February, they announce the 15,000 Finalists, so I think I have a chance of getting to that point. If I do, then Bowdoin will meet 100% of demonstrated need loan-free. Which rocks. So do I have a chance?

Academics:
GPA: Unweighted is around 3.5. Weighted was 4.5 halfway through grade 11, when I moved from NC to New Brunswick, Canada. The school here doesn’t weight.
Rank: Unknown at this point. Top 6% in NC, though. New school doesn’t weight, so that’ll push it down to 10 or 15%.
SAT: CR 760, MA 680, WR 690, taking W Hist and Lit Subject Tests on Saturday.
Classes:
AP Psych - A
Poli Sci - High B
Media Studies - A
AP World History - A
Sociology - A

Extra Currics:
Founder: Philosophy Club in NC and Ambassadors Club here – a club for new students to help them get adjusted.
Current Member: Ambassadors, Red Cross Response Team, Students Aware of the World, International Student Association, and Knitting Club
Volunteering: Weekly with Multicultural Association and the library
Job: Had one last year, but I can’t get a work permit here.

And then, question 2:
I know that drinking is pretty prevalent on campus, but does Mary Jane hang out on campus, too?

some of my pals believe in the happy herb.
it's not very prevalent, as alcohol is the substance of choice here, but it's there if you look for it a little

As long as you graduate top 10% you should be alright with those stats. Drinking is common and "Mary Jane" use is relatively common as well. Let's put it this way... it's not hard to find. I don't use, but I heard there are several dealers on campus.

Focus on the things that make you really different in your app.

Looks like you're doing well in challenging classes, which is a good thing. It's hard to say for certain though, since so much of Admissions decisions are based on the somewhat intangible aspects of the application.

I'm here at Bowdoin on a National Merit Scholarship, which ended up making Bowdoin much more affordable than other LACs that I applied to (and I liked Bowdoin best anyways). Knowing that I'll be graduating loan-free is a great feeling.
