not harsh------- but realistic

http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/admissions/fr_selection_process.cfm

Look at that for awhile. I'll notify you on how to play the admissions at UCD and ensure your acceptance later today if you message me on AIM. Otherwise, I'll post later. Good Night.

Write some good personal statements and you'll be alright.

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

Are you good enough to be recruited for tennis?

OK. I know Davis's admissions pretty dam well so you are in luck. As I've said, you should look at the link I provided earlier. Now, I'm going to assess your overall points and I will tell you a rough cutoff range (including some of this year's). Lastly, I'll propose what you SHOULD do to get enough points to get in.

-High school GPA (capped at 4.5)
Because you didn't indicated if your GPA is weighted or not, I'll assume it is.
3.1x1000=3100 pts

-Admission exams
0.8(sat1+sat2+sat2)
0.8(2100+750+700)=2840 pts

-First-generation university attendance
If your parents never finished a 4-year college, then you get 250 pts.

-Special talent
Uhh, this section is harsh. It really varies among committees. I'll be lenient and give you 125 pts because of your internship?

Marked improvement in 11th grade
Get your grades up! 250pts

current raw score: 6565 pts

----Work on These----

-Number of “a-g” courses beyond 35
After 35 semesters of classes, you get 50 more points for each additional semester of classes you take throughout your 4 years of high school. Easy points, get them using community college or an overload of HS classes.

-Individual initiative
They find this in your essay. Write a sob story that made you motivate yourself? Maybe talk about how a cousin of yours started doing drugs? I don't know. All or none, 500pts.

-Nontraditional applicant
Most biased section ever. Make your interns and volunteering look sexxy and write some catchy essays. 0, 125, or 250 pts. It depends.

-Leadership
You can add leadership roles into your brag sheet and probably get 250 pts. To get 500 pts, you might want to talk about something that really shows your leadership skills in your essay.

-Perseverance & personal difficulty
Death of a family member or turning point in your life. They are pretty lenient with this. They gave me 250 for going from a gamer with bad grades to a student with a high GPA.

Sections I did not include and you should not worry about:
-Eligibility in the Local Context (ELC)
-Participation in EOP
-Veteran/ROTC scholarship
-Significant disability

Last Words: The essays determine all the abstract stuff like nontraditional app, leadership, and perserverence. Cover them in your essays and they'll likely give you the points. They do not make extra random sections for having a very touching essay that does not cover any section on the rubric, sadly. You might be able to get more points if you weight your GPA and tell me. The most solid points are extra semesters of courses, 50 pts each.

This Year!:
-Engineering cutoff: 7550 pts
-Physics and Mathematics in Letters and Science: 7186 (It's around there, I might have it wrong)
-Most majors: In the 7100s or the 7200s. I didn't see any higher except for engineering on this year's cutoff list.

Huff Huff. Good Luck!

Edit: Notice how I didn't exactly mention singing, dancing, music, tennis, or volunteering. They fit nowhere on the rubric =|.

Thank yoooooouuuuuu sooooooooo muuuuuuch JAs0n!!!!!!! ( and everyone else!)

I owe you a lot for taking the time to write this and give me advise....

i'll try to come on aim today......

thanks again.... ur the best!

~sumgirl

Your GPA might be a lot higher than you think. A weighted GPA would be an extra points for up to eight semesters of AP/College courses. For example, an A in AP Physics would count as 5 points towards GPA calculation instead of just 4. Your GPA could be like 3.5, which gives you a fat 400 pts. This would put you at a raw score of 6900 ish (200-300 more for acceptance). I talked to the admissions office personally and learned a great deal about their admissions. You have a lot of work to cover o_o.

ooo... um... reply...

my gpa is weighted and i dunno if i'm good enough to be recruited for tennis... and even if i was good enough will that help me...?

thanks again u guys... ur awesome :]

it is just your gpa that is in the way...unless it is uw? other than that write an impressive essay and you'll make it!

Yea, your GPA is kinda killing you. You have no Ds right? Ds would be detrimental to your acceptance. I slapped in 250 points for "marked improvement in 11th grade" so your actual raw score would probably be a 6315. If your parents have SOME four year education, you would also lose another 250 pts (I know...unfair >=[). Being number one Varsity is most likely not going to help you in the UCD admissions at ALL, unless you have some inspiring story about it in your essays. As blueprint says, write some amazing essays that cover something dramatic in your life UNDER the rubric on the page I provided. The rubric is basically the limit for admissions. You have a great chance of making it if you play the admissions process like how I'm teaching you. Oh yea, do NOT touch engineering as a major (it got me rejected). Picking your major as the first and math/physics or completely undeclared as your alternative major would help.

If you are good enough to be recruited for tennis it will absolutely get you in. You won't even have to meet most of the eligibility requirements. A basic 3.0 GPA and passing SAT's. Go to the NCAA web site to see requirements for being a college level athlete. Talk to your coach and find out if you are good enough. UCD is D1. Visit the UCD athletic web-site and look for the recruitment form there. You can contact the coach by email as well. The first thing is to find out if you are in fact recruitable, if you are it will be easy to get in.

i dunno about tennis ... college level teams are supergood and i'm only JV

100% ! (answer is too short)

a 100% chance? kidding rite....?

i don't even kno if i can get into a lower ranked college like riverside... or sumthing

hey and also,.... do the classes I took at community college count towards my GPA? if they did my GPA would be NICE!

Ask your coach about your chances for recruitment.

with all those extra curric, i think you can get in. your SAT's are WAY higher than mine too and i got in. my gpa was about 3.3 unweighted. i think you'll be fine :)

i dont think u need to worry. have more confident in yourself because it's not hard to get in. make sure you apply to other schools too!

thanks you guys... it's just my gpa that's in the way... it's 3.1 weigted by the way....

do community college courses count towards gpa for college????
