Chances @ Princeton, Stanford

<p>I am a white/spanish male from a suburb of Washington, DC. Would love to attend Princeton or Stanford if I could. I am also applying to UC Berkeley. Had a bad ninth grade year, some family problems, couple B's and C's, no D's. Do they really care about Freshman year??</p>

<p>honestly, it might depend on exactly how "amazing" your essay really is and how "great" you recs are. your gpa is fine, even great, considering that it includes some bad freshman grades. your ECs are good but not great, everybody's gonna have community service and its not that impressive to run your dad's business (now, if you started your own business...) what might hurt you are those SAT's, they're at the tail end of all those colleges' median scores. you have a shot, no doubt, but not a better shot than anybody else.</p>

<p>You just can never tell. I'd say your SATS are too low for Princeton and Stanford, but you never know. It's a crapshoot.</p>

<p>If it helps, I know that Stanford DOES NOT count freshman year grades when they recalculate GPAs for admissions, so that should significantly bump up your GPA.</p>
