Chances Rutgers Transfer NB Engineering School

What do my chances look like for Rutgers NB School of Engineering or SAS? Stats:

Transferring from NJ two-yr community college with 2 yrs of credit, or A.S.
College GPA: 3.2
Transfer major: Materials Science & Engineering
Relevant classes (including the coming spring semester):
Chem 1,2
Physics 1,2
Calc3,Differential EQ
Engineering Statics
Intro Engineering
Java Programming
Microbiology

High School: Homeschooled
GPA: Didnt really use grades, estimated around 3.7
Self-studied HTML and Recreational Mathematics
SAT: 1960 CR-660 M-540 (ouch) W-760 (I may not even submit the scores though)

I dont have credit for Calc 1 and 2 because I took the CLEP over the summer and although my score wasnt enough for the college to grant credit, they let me take the Calc 3 class - I am having no trouble in the class, and I think I'll get a B overall. This is the only thing I'm really concerned with, because I started pretty low for engineering in Intermediate Algebra, then Precalc, then taught myself Calc. This shouldn't affect their decision if I do well in Calc 3 right? All the other classes are mostly Bs and a couple As, only C is in Chem 2 because of an evil professor.

Extra stuff: Cross country, advisor on the Mayor's Youth Council, some community theater, won a high school Business Idea Competition for the whole region, semi-finalist in the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Awards, won 1st place in post and district for the Voice of Democracy audio essay competition, Technologies Director on the Mayor's Youth Council in high school, created and managed an educational website during high school, and some more.

My GPA could change up or down a bit after this semester, so please chance for slightly lower like 3.0/3.1 to be safe!!!

Thank you!!! :)

Oh! And I also tutor math, computer science, and English about 10 hours/week at my college and work as a computer lab monitor for 10 hrs/week. Before this semester, I worked for 14 months at 24hrs/wk at a sign manufacturing company as an office assistant.

50/50 chance. You are applying for fall 2012 right?

Yes. Why 50/50, because of GPA?

Yes. Engineering is a bit tough to get into. However, you seem to have completed most of the prerequisites and you have 60+ credits so that is good.

It doesn’t matter if if you started all the way from pre-algebra. If you do well in the rest of the math classes then you are fine.

I started from intermediate algebra and am now in calculus II. I received A’s in all of them and currently am sitting on an A.

Thats good to know  But yea, I know the engineering school can be tough, I’m trying to bring up my GPA this semester. Were you admitted to the SOE?

I only applied to SAS in NB and I was admitted. I would like to major in biological sciences.

I have a friend who applied late with a sub 3.0 gpa and got rejected from SOE in New Brunswick. He had an associate degree as well.

I also know someone on this website who got into SOE in NB with a 3.9 GPA

Bottom line is do your best in your upcoming semesters.

good luck!
