I have decided I really love economics and while I was looking for colleges to transfer to I was informed that a lot of my family has gone to UPenn. My grandfather went to medical school and was a tenured professor there, my grandmother got her bachelors and masters there, and my uncle went to medical school, fellowship and residence there. I have no clue if/what this would do for me. Does it help me get in? Does it get me some scholarship money? I had a 3.82 GPA in highschool. I believe it was the #2 ranked highschool in Delaware and I got 1890 on the SAT. I went to Marietta College in Ohio for 1 semester and got a 3.0 average. I came back home and have been going to a local community college and have a mostly As and 2 Bs out of 11 classes. Do I even have a chance of getting? Any guess of how much it would cost?

While i can’t answer the question of how you would do if you were to apply there, UPenn only gives out need-based grants meaning depending on your family income the financial aid amount varies.

I’m sure legacy will help you a bit. I don’t think it would be the deciding factor. And only if there are scholarships specifically for relatives to UPenn alums. I don’t know of these because I don’t have legacy and haven’t looked into it.

It has been discussed both on these boards and on the Penn web page that Penn only considers Legacy during the ED process.

I think it would show that you do really know about the school and are interested based on personal experience, and that might help you at some level even as a transfer but no official “bump”.
