I'm sorry, I'm sure these chances threads get repetitive. Well, I'm really unsure and need some guidance. I'll be a senior in the fall.

I'm a white female from a poor Alabama town, my high school is poor as well. I'd be the first in my family to go to college.

I have a 4.0 unweighted, I've made all A's so far. I've taken all honors English classes, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, and I will be taking AP Lit next semester.

I scored a 32 on the ACT and I will take the SATS this fall.

I was freshmen class secretary, sophmore class vice president, junior class president.
Vice president of the Young Democrats.
President and co-founder of my school's first pro marijuana legalization club.
I've spent over a hundred hours volunteering at a local animal shelter.

My ECs aren't great but oh well, though I would try anyway. Thanks.

I think you have a great chance. Try and pick up a copy of "The Gatekeepers", by Jacques Steinberg; you'll get a better feel for how to present yourself through the foibles and adventures of other Wesleyan applicants. Frankly, I would softpedal (if not ditch entirely) the marijuana EC -- but, read the book, then, you decide. :p

You look like you have great chances to me. Your stats are very good as are your extracurriculars (really! class president, young democrats, animal shelter - it's not going to get you in on its own, but it looks good). Plus, you have the diversity t hing going for you, which helps a lot - Wesleyan is strong on trying to get geographic diversity. As johnwesley mentioned... the marijuana legalization thing could be tricky... I also recommend "The Gatekeepers" so you can see why :P (It's a book that kind of takes a behind-the-scenes look at the Wesleyan admissions process). Like I recommend for everyone, make sure you have a strong essay that says something about YOU, and ask teachers who really know you personally to write your recommendations, and remind them of any anecdotes that put you in a good light and would help the admissions committee remember you as an interesting and unique and intelligent person.

You want to know what your chances are? My dear, have you even looked at your stats? Within the course of them, you defy all preconceptions associated with your state, not to mention throw out some excellent scores and display what must be a briliant academic record. Your chances are phenomenal. Just make sure you don't botch the essays.

Oh, and about the marijuana...maybe it's the Republican in me, but some part of my mind thinks that would be better kept quiet unless there's a compelling reason you support it, in which case it could be a very good essay topic.
