Chances?? Steinhardt Studio Art (just the stats!)

Hi! I know admissions officers look at portfolio more than anything, but I'm worried about my stats-- some are pretty low

Asian female - California

GPA (unweighted) - 3.1 - upward trend, not including college credit classes

GPA (weighted) - I honestly do not know how NYU weights grades, but I'm going to guess around a 3.4? 3.5?

SAT : 2200

EC: Lots (volunteer and otherwise) in art/music areas, some officer positions, some awards

Does my high SAT make up for my low GPA? If I've got a good portfolio/recs/essays will it bring up my chances some? Does NYU Art even care about scores?

I'm interested in double majoring in Art/Music. Can I write that on my application (I've only got a portfolio for art)? will my EC in art/music tip the scale in my favor?

SO MANY QUESTIONS. SORRY :(
nyu is one of my top choices. if i don't get in, i might transfer...

I’m applying to the same school also. When I went to visit NYU, I talked to some undergraduates and faculty at the Tisch school and they said that portfolios are a much bigger part of their decision than the website makes it sound. In my opinion, I think you fine. I have similar stats, higher GPA but lower SAT.

You will not be able to double major in art and music. The major in music through Steinhardt is a BM degree and cannot be combined with the BFA–way too many credit requirements for each degree. I do believe that there is a music minor that you can have through Steinhardt. With the BFA requirements, it will be very hard (and I believe not recommended) to double major in anything.
