Let me start by saying thanks for readin this and feel free to post what you think is my best option.
Im a Senior in High School and need to know if I actually have a chance to a CSU. My GPA right now is 2.44, i need to make up 2 semesters of English and one Semester if Algebra because i got D's. I have heard that for CSU you can get a D and still grt accepted but not takinh chances. I want to know if I make up does 3 Semesters will I be able to get into either Monterey Bay, Sac State, or Fresno State. I already have a spot in my local Stan State college but dont want to go there. My second option is to go to CCC and transfer to CSU San Diego.

Also I have been in AVID for 6 years and dont know if that will help.

You did not list your SAT scores which makes it a little more difficult to determine your chances for the CSUs you mentioned. With the large increase in applications that most CSUs are experiencing and the 40,000 student reduction in enrollment the CSUs have to make for budget reasons, getting accepted at a CSU outside your service area is going to be very difficult with a 2.44 GPA. For Sac State and Fresno State you would probably need a combined CR and M score on the SAT of at least 1,100 to be seriously considered. I am not really sure about Monterey Bay but it is likely to also be a reach.

You may have to start at Stan State and if you can get good grades there, it is possible to later transfer to Sac State, Fresno State or Monterey Bay if you still want to go to one of those schools. For transfer students they will only look at your GPA from Stan State so your high school record will have no bearing on whether you are accepted or not. While transferring from a CSU to a UC is extremely difficult, transferring between CSUs is easier.

However, if you really have your heart set on Sac State, Fresno State or Monterey Bay and have no interest in Stan State, your best course of action might be to go to a community college instead of Stan State for two years and then transfer to one of the three schools that you are really interested in. Because the state requires CSUs and UCs to give qualified community college students top priority in transfer admissions your chances of being accepted as a transfer student at one of the three CSUs you are aiming for are better if you are applying from a CCC than from another CSU. The risk in this strategy is that if you go to a CCC and are not accepted by a UC or CSU as a transfer student, you are stuck at a school that can not award you a bachelor’s degree. If you go to Stan State and are not able to transfer to Sac State, Fresno or Monterey Bay at least you are still at a university that you can get a four year degree from.
