I don’t know about the other schools but I’d say your chances at Princeton are fairly good if you do all the extracurriculars you’ve planned. You also need to make sure to do well on the SATs and continue to do well in your classes. Keep up with the languages, that will definitely help you on your application. That shadowing thing in Tunisia and the summer volunteering in Mexico will substantially contribute to your chances of getting in to any school. Things like that make an individual stand out amongst the other applicants. Make sure to obtain some leadership positions in your ECs. Also, I would highly recommend you becoming a counselor at the next camp. I’m sure it is an honor to be asked back. The only way you will receive good financial aid is if you get into schools like HYPS. Best of luck!

@princetonchica- Thanks so much for the advice!

As a freshman, definitely remain open to options other than Stanford. While it’s the best school that is really close to you, consider going to other parts of the country. Look in southern cali (at USC), the midwest (at Northwestern and UChicago) in the south (at Emory and Duke), and in the east (at a bunch of schools, including Princeton, Cornell, NYU, Georgetown, Tufts, Brown, and MIT). All of these schools share some applicants with Stanford. Good luck!

Also, just a note about your schedule. You won’t be able to take Calc AB and Calc BC in the same year.

Thanks for the response! At our school, you take AP Calc AB the first term, and AP Calc BC the second term. My brother did that this year as a soph. And I’m definitely keeping my options open, just Stanford is my top choice. There are some smaller schools I like but they aren’t well known. I love some of the schools you mentioned too. Thanks again!

well for one, you need stellar GPA, and perhaps a SAT of 2300+ or ACT of 34+
