I am currently a sophomore and looking at colleges such as Stanford and the other top universities. I am currently in 5 Ap classes, (calc ab, physics 1, art history, world , environmental) and German III and English 2 pre-ap. I had one B last semester in physics and the rest were A’s. I am looking to apply to Stanford as a math major and will be heading in with 2 years of college math, calc 1,2,3 and ordinary differential equations. I am a first generation american with no family members attending or graduating from a 4 year university and I live I have divorced parents one making > $30,000 a year and the other around $60,000. On top of this I work on average of 30 hours a week and involved in Habitat for humanity and a president of the book club at my school along with Mu Alpha Theta and German honor society. How do I stand right now when it comes to the admissions processes at the top universities.
Seek out things that make you passionate, and dedicate yourself to them. And find the thing that makes you unique - that makes you something other than a run-of-the-mill high-achieving intelligent kid. As for how to do that? Do lots of things you’re uncomfortable with, and always jump at every opportunity to find new things (and use the Internet a lot - it gives lots of ideas)
