Lol are you from emory? go eagles? I am thinking of transferring out of Emory too (same as you - I am a freshman). I am retaking sats in january and applying this year. Yea, dont wait, apply this year with the 3.9.

If you’re thinking of applying to Georgetown, I would be more concerned about taking the 2 SATs GU requires (unless you’ve already taken these).

I had the same problem. From my calling around last year, generally adcoms said that there’s much disparity between the academic preparation of a junior in HS and a college freshman for the ACT exam. So, the new ACT score could be evaluated differently and adcoms would be mindful of the time difference and your academic progression.

After two full semesters of grades (once you send in mid-year reports) the ACT score should bear much less weight.

However, if you have the time, motivation, and certainty that you’ll score substantially higher, go for it.

You seem to ‘have a shot,’ though what has been said above about applying as a junior is generally correct. However, it doesn’t hurt to apply. I am also applying, though I believe my record isn’t as strong as it should be.

“If you’re thinking of applying to Georgetown, I would be more concerned about taking the 2 SATs GU requires (unless you’ve already taken these).”

Where did you get this information? Maybe for freshmen admits they require 2 SAT IIs? But for transfers, EITHER the ACT or SAT I are accepted. SAT IIs are not required. Unless you meant SAT I + 1 other SAT II is required, but that’s not true either. GU only requires the SAT or ACT.

When I applied to Georgetown for Fall 2010, they required 2 SAT Subject Tests (that’s what I meant). The website doesn’t seem to state so this year… things might have changed. I would still call in to inquire how they feel about SATIIs and if transfer applicants who submit them have any advantage. If not, you have it easier this year. :)

GoEagles, (re: Georgetown) I think you definitely have a shot, even with an ACT 30 (I had a 29 and got in). What matters is that you present yourself as Hoya material and do very well in articulating how you can contribute to GU, both in essays and in your interview.

As far as Penn, the ACT re-take might boost your application, but what matters to Penn more than test scores (and bless the adcoms for it) is your story, dynamic persona, ambitions, sense of civic responsibility, goals for the future, and an utmost, overwhelming love for Penn and portrayal of how you can contribute to the local (Penn, Philly) and world communities and make fellow Quakers proud. So, your essays need to be fantastic.

you definitely have a shot, but I would recommend taking the ACT’s again, simply because the transfer pool tends to be pretty competitive, and Georgetown unfortunately DOES look at testing more than other schools. That being said, I’m seeking a transfer out of Gtown, so I’d be happy to give you my spot, ha

You should definitely apply to the top schools that you want to go to. Your record is excellent and you have a good chance at getting in. If you don’t even apply in the first place, then your chances are zero.

Just make sure to take the transfer application seriously and write a strong essay. There are a lot of helpful resources on CC that you can take a look at.
