I can not choose to send just one because my high school transcript provides both scores. As you can see I did much better on the ACT, which I took 6 months after the SAT. What do you think will happen in this regard? I do have #1 rank and a high GPA on my transcript to back me up a little ..... any ideas? I'm a college freshman transferring.

They’ll look at your ACT. Colleges understand that the ACT/SAT is just one early Saturday morning during a very strenuous high school career. If you did poorly one Saturday, and well another, then they’re going to look at you performing at your top level (i.e. your better Saturday).

Don’t worry about it, they usually consider the better score. The #1 rank, high GPA and the great ACT score will definitely back you up. Where are you transferring from?

^ beta61, I am transferring from Emory University. I’m a freshman. How about you, are you going to apply?

I’m a high school senior applying for McDonough this year. I’ll also apply to Emory through Regular Decision. Emory’s a good school! Why the transfer? It’s a bit of a private question, hope you don’t mind, it’s okay if you don’t answer it :)

^ Yes, emory is a pretty nice school but I am applying to GTown School of Foreign Service. Their degree, curriculum + location is perfect for the study I want to pursue (International Politics) At Emory I could major in political science but there are a great amount of required courses that I am not too excited about. I prefer general concentration in Int. Pol. over political theory or american politics…

What are your stats?

That specificity makes Georgetown much more preferable compared to Emory when you have a set “agenda.” I think it’s a good decision :)

And also, don’t worry about the ACT and the SAT. It’s often the case where students who excel at ACT do horribly at SAT and vice versa. One of the person I know (who went to Brown and then Harvard Law) got a 1550/1600 on the SAT but got a 27 on the ACT so I don’t think they mind. Good luck!

SFS is pretty difficult to get in but with your GPA and all, I’m sure you will do fine. Also, does anyone know whether you can transfer from Gtown College to SFS? I want to major in political economy but I’m also really interested in International Affairs and International political economy…

^ I heard from someone on one of the threads that it is possible to transfer from college. I think some people thought that since allegedly college is easier to get into, they would first apply to college and then the transfer to SFS would be easier.

I personally dont think it is a good idea. If you go the Gtown website, the admission rate for college and SFS are essentially the same.( 18 or 19 %) The problem many people face is that SFS is harder to get into because of the category of people they are looking for. College is more mixed with different people in different fields. Are you applying first year?

As a transfer, your standardized tests scores won’t matter. That’s right: they won’t look at it. Your current college transcript, essays, and current recs are the only thing that’ll matter.

^Limabeans, you need to clarify some things. I wonder what makes you so confident that it is specifically how Gtown transfer admission works. why in the world would they require standardized test scores for transfer admission if they do not look at them? Do you have any reliable source to back up your claims? otherwise you are making us all unnecessarily concerned.

PS. Also note that Freshman transfers will have only ONE semester of college grades available to be judged on. No one would think that’s sufficient. Plus they also need high school transcripts which makes not sense if they dont care.

some schools can take off one or more of the scores off the transcript. i would inquire if your’s can?

International politics? That’s why you’d be interested in SFS! Good luck, I heard that internship opportunities are amazing for SFS students. Is it your first choice?
My stats are okay, I’m not confident that it’s good enough for Gtown. But I do get great feedback for my essays, so I’m hoping that’ll put me in a better position. I have solid business-related awards and leadership position, and some very unconventional liberal arts ECs.
Asian female, MD, SATs 2100 (750 on writing, which Gtown doesn’t consider!), total of 10 APs (including senior yr), approx. 3.7 GPA, top 14% at a very competitive high school. We have students getting into the Ivies and top national programs each year.
I never took the ACTs. I signed up for the upcoming December test, but I don’t know if I should take it, since I’m not familiar with it and I have no time to study
Two more weeks until I hear back from them! When are you apps due?

^my application materials are due by March 1 because I am a transfer. I can understand, however, the hassle of the first year admission since I went through the same process last year. Just take a deep breath. Yes, Georgetown is my first choice. I think I might be the only school I will be applying to. What is your personal essay about? I have been having problem with choosing a particular topic and sticking to it.

I’ve had experiences publishing fiction and creative nonfiction, so my essay naturally came out as an abstract piece describing my general way of seeing everything. More poetic than narrative, I guess. I know it sounds pretty bad, but I’ve gotten some very good feedback, so hopefully it’s not unbearably cheesy
I saw your other post. Don’t worry about standardized test scores… You did well at Emory, I bet they’d be impressed. Plus your ACT score is definitely up to par with the Gtown range. Pff, relax.
