Do I have a chance to get into Georgetown?

Okay, so I have my eye on three schools in DC, Georgetown being my ultimate dream school, then GWU, and lastly, American U. I will be a sophomore at a local community college with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. I want to major in Intl. Relations and get accepted to a top SFS program. The problem is, my ACT scores are way too low. I've taken the test twice now, but am thinking of doing so again once I take math courses at my university. Is that considered cheating at all? To take your ACT as a sophomore and submit it to Georgetown for a transfer applicant? Also, I have never taken the SAT. Will that hurt me?

I am currently doing an internship in Congress, and am looking to study abroad for a year or so in Russia or the Balkans.

I am working towards becoming fluent in Russian.

There is also the chance I can be admitted to a local Phi Theta Kappa chapter.

Is this enough to even be given the time of day? What do I need to do now to make myself more competitive amongst transfer students who have an ACT score of 32??

Also, does anyone know how much a degree at Georgetown will ultimately cost?

Thanks!

Anyone…???

I was accepted to Georgetown College (not SFS) as a government major.

I attended a local community college and graduated with a 4.0. I was a member of PTK, and vice president of a student organization.

I scored a 29 on the ACT in high school, but I retook it after my first year in college and scored a 31. I’m not sure if Georgetown considered it “cheating,” but hey, I got in.

According to someone I had talked to from Georgetown’s admissions office, they want to see the scores to ALL the tests you’ve taken, so I had to send them both ACT scores and my SAT scores (since I also took the SAT). It shouldn’t hurt you if you haven’t taken the SAT. I personally found the ACT so much easier than the SAT, so I don’t blame you, but since you said you didn’t do so well on it, you may have wanted to consider taking the SAT. Call Georgetown and ask if they recommend you retake the ACT or take the SAT.

I didn’t do any internships, however, I did work on a large project that raised around $25K for sustainable development in Haiti. I won’t go into detail here about it, but I did write about it in one of my transfer application essays. I also attended two academic seminars - one in Washington, D.C. and the other in Salzburg, Austria - through my school.

According to my decision letter, Georgetown’s yearly tuition is $40,920, and room & board is $13,260.

I won’t pretend to be able to predict whether or not you have a chance at SFS, however, I have heard it’s very competitive. Hopefully I’ve given you some perspective at what the College is looking for.

By the way, I was also accepted to American University’s honors college, and they awarded me the Dean’s scholarship for $12,000. However, their financial aid is nearly nonexistent. I just received an e-mail from GWU that their decisions will go up tomorrow.

thank you!
