Chances to get in Cornell?

Cornell is into Russian people? That made my day...

is it hard for dumb asians like me to get in to Statler School?

for korean americans like you and me, it makes it a bit harder. I have a korean hotelie friend but he's an international student so he got in because of that. for hotel, your interview and essays are the most important parts.

dumb asians?

dude, the real dumb asians are those who grew up literally jailed inside their own homes, memorizing Webster's at age 6 for the spelling bee, going into meaningless violin competitions where 99% of their competitors are asian, cramming for the SATs in middle school and by senior year they've already taken the SATs 7 times and finally got a 2100.

that's your typical asian. and because of that, they make the rest of us asians who NEVER follow stereotypes look really really really (like really) bad.

its different for you and me, mate. we were never drilled by our asian parents in violin or math and science. statler should accept you simply by virtue of the note that "you stand out from the typical asians." (direct quote from my interviewer). you'll get in dude.

They don't so much like Russians as much as being Russian as opposed to Asian is good lol. Less selective...

I just studied Japanese business and the educational system (Modern Japan course) last semester. They are INTENSE. Schools are sooo competative. When it comes to tests and getting into college the student pretty much comes close to death from studying and working so much lol.

dude i hope so man.. i wanted to go to statler since 6th grade..

Those are some pretty broad generalizations for those types of Asians who are absorbed in their studies and extra curriculars. Most of which are tending to become less of a reality as Asian parents are realizing that all Asian kids are doing this.

You said you're half asian, so you don't even count. :p People can tell immediately what kind of Asian you are after getting to know you. Even just by physical appearance they can get a sense of what kind of person you are. You really shouldn't have any trouble with Asian stereotypes.

That's not an excuse to be a "dumb" student. You don't just stand out because you DIDN'T do violin or math/science competitions. You have to do hospitality industry related extra curriculars or show in your essay and interview how you're interested in the hospitality industry.

tun thanks for clarifying it up.. my school does not offer any hospitality indsutry related extracurriculars.. however i plan on working at a hotel this summer-spring of 08'. i couldve also took hospitality management class for my senior year however it doesn't fit into my schedule.. i have massive extracurriculars however.
