Hello all, I was wondering my chances for getting into an Ivy League school, or rice university. I am an Eagle Scout, top 100 tennis player in my state, number one on the tennis team at my school, got first place in two piano competitions state wide, I have been working at a kumon for 3 years now, I’m a sophomore, , I have a key club office, and I’m and Indian male. I got a 1390 on my psat, and am hoping to get a 1480+ next year so I can be NMS. What are my chances? Be honest please!!!
I forgot to say that I’m ranked 8 in my class with a 4.4 gpa
You are the standard indian male, but you will have a decent shot. Try to be a recruited athlete, and your chances will be a lot better.
Are u being looked at my coaches for recruitment for tennis? From my understanding, all ivies and rice are division one sports schools. Usually, Division One coaches will contact students during their sophomore year- and oversee them until they decide to give them an offer. If not, as your tennis coach to reach out to college coaches to come to one of your games. Recruited athlete status is usually a shoo-in to ivies when a student has high stats like you. Good luck.
Its hard to say at this point. Not enough data like junior year GPA, PSAT, ACT, SAT, final rank etc. To be honest, it’s tough out there for unhooked Indian/Asian males. Keep at it but stay ready for any outcome.
I know I’m a bit late posting this but as a Rice student, I can say there are other factors as well like GPA, SAT/ACT, final rank, etc. To be honest, it is really difficult for Indian and Asian males because there are so, so many who are all really, really good. Not saying you’re at a disadvantage, but try to find something unique and build your application around it. You want to show that you’re not just a standard student - that you’re excellent, which I’m sure you are. You sound amazing athletically - maybe try for recruitment for tennis? I have no idea how athletics work, but as a recruited athletes, you’d have a much higher chance given your stats. That being said, you’re just a sophomore and you’re thinking well in advance, which is great. Keep up your stats, EC’s, get fantastic letters of rec (those REALLY help), and focus on those essays. Rice supplements are really thought-provoking, so spend some time on those. Good luck
