Hey guys I was wondering I am applying to NYU ED2 but I have a very low unweighted gpa (about 2.8) as I messed up my freshman year. But I have taken all ap classes and since my freshman year I have gotten pretty much all A's and B's i advanced classes but that unfortunately didn't help my gpa at all. So what do you think my chances would be in that regard? I have a pretty high act score and I am involved in extracurriculars (i was elected officer for English Honor Society and historian in spanish club) and I've wanted to go to NYU for as long as I can remember but I don't think I'd get in but i would like to know your take on this. And on a side not my gpa out of 100 is 98 if that makes a difference. And i have a 3.78 gpa weighted. I am also part of many other clubs and i have gotten good letters of recommendation. And i also have taken many ap tests and gotten high scores which resulted in me getting AP Scholar with Honor. I was I am technically an international student as I was born in Canada and i also attend a private school here in the USA. And i also am not applying for financial aid. So what do you guys think are my chances of getting into NYU via early decision 2?

I have wanted to go to NYU for as long as i can remember and I’m afraid that just because i blew off my freshman year, which resulted in me having a low gpa that was very hard for me to get up to where it is now (albeit it’s not high at all now) i won’t get in. Im aware the chances of me getting in are low due to my gpa but what do u guys think???

I think the colleges will see that really upward trend and count that into consideration, so that might count for something. Also, your essays will boost or hurt your chances a lot depending on how good they are. So, i wouldn’t say that you have no chance, but I think with ED2, your chances are pretty good again depending how good your ACT is and how much effort you put into your essays. Other than that, this also depends on the school. Stern, Tisch, and Nursing will be pretty hard to get into. Not saying its impossible though if thats where you want to be. The other schools will definitely be easier. Good luck!

@bobcat97 Yeah I’m applying to CAS! so what act score do you think would be good? And thanks!

Normally CAS would be around a 31-32. This could be offset in either direction based on how well you do in the other categories: essay, recommendations, gpa, extracurriculars, leaderships, etc.

@bobcat97 ok thanks!!

And i would also love to get anyone else’s input on how i stack u!

I agree with @bobcat97 that an upward trend in your GPA would make do for the low UW one.
I really can’t say about your chances because I think a high test score is needed to offset the GPA…
CAS is the school with the most applicants and many of them are really accomplished. Your ECs are okay…but I don’t know if you have any more. You’d need them.
But the AP scholar thing is really helpful.
I think NYU is a match/high match for you :)

@ImNYUobsessed thanks! Do you think if my supplement and common app essay were really good that would increase my chances?

@ImNYUobsessed and also what do you mean by match/high match?

@libertysenior I meant that NYU you is a match school for you… Like people who are at your level(?) of studying etc. got to that school… A school is either a match, a reach, or a safety.

The good thing about NYU is that they weight their essays pretty heavily…so yeah your essays will really help you!

@ImNYUobsessed ok thanks!!

And i would like to get other people opinion as well if possible!

bump

My friend got rejected with a 2.8 UW and a 30 ACT

To CAS and GLS ^

@Sarahw123 what were her other information like extracurriculars awards and stuff?

bump

I just finished writing my supplement for NYU and I think that it is really good! Can anyone else chance me?

@libertysenior i’m applying to NYU RD. I need some direction for my supplements. could you give them a read?
