Chances to New York University

well... here is some background about myself..

graduated high school in 1999
with GPA of 2.7
didn't take SAT at the time

now i have been going to a community college in CA
i would have 60 units by this fall with GPA of 3.95 (unweighted)
applying for NYU College of Arts and Sciences as a transfer
finished math up to Precalculus.. finished all the english requirements
Macro/Micro Econ.. Statistic.. and most of the hard classes...
with good recommendation letters from instructors and counselor..

i had work experiences as a computer technician
Organize kids and teen community events
and an officer in school's asian club

it's probably not that great of a stat.. just want to know what are the possibilities to get into NYU...

I seriously doubt that you could get into NYU, it's a super mega mega mega reach. Sorry, just the truth.

just wondering.. does NYU still take concern of highschool grade even if it was in 1999 and even that i have 60 college semester units?

Yes, NYU still requires a h/s transcript and your test scores, even if you've been out of h/s for several years.

just wondering.. would they really concern with my high school grades.. or they put more of their decision on my college performance?

The more college courses you've taken, the less important your h/s record becomes, but that does not mean that they ignore it totally. If you're doing well in college, then that's a good thing! :) Good luck to you.

yeah...

what other things are there possibility to do at the moment?

at 3.95 and 60 units... what you think the possibilities are? none?

i think that NYU is a high reach for you, because of your very low gpa, and you didn't take the SAT. Your college gpa is very good, and that will help you. You can maybe take the SATs? i dont really know....sorry!

well.. NYU said.. not to retake the SAT specifically if you never take it...
and some of my school counselors said.. they tend not to grade much on your high school if you complete more than 1 year at college...

do you really think high school grades play a big factor for transfer applicants?

I'd say you have a decent shot, GG. Your GPA is great, and will your high school past come back to haunt you?

I don't know.

Gauss,

You should try the continuing ed school at NYU instead, its more geared toward people like you...the center for that school is in midtown not Greenwich Village, but you'll be able to take NYU classes.

Good luck!

-NYU class of '00

does continuing ed school has Economics major?

Yes they have a bachelor of arts in social sciences, economics concentration

nyu continuing school: http://www.scps.nyu.edu/

economics concentration: http://www.scps.nyu.edu/departments/degree.jsp?degId=42

Also, is there a specific reason you had a low GPA in high school? If there was a single factor, explaining it to them may help.

umm i dont think your high school record has much of an effect on your transfer status especially if u graduated more than 5 years ago....im pretty sure ur college gpa and what courses you have taken are much more important and weighed more heavily upon

I was wondering...could someone tell me what my chances are for NYU CAS? I am a transfer student.

My freshman and soph year of high school I didnt do very well. My junior year I turned things around and won "most improved student" my GPA ended up being 3.0, which isnt good, but I got mostly A's my junior and senior year.
I did tons of volunteer work.
Relay for life every year,
track and cross country every year,
leadership possitions in Rotary club and Habitat for Humanity
etc...
SAT I was horrible...1060
I went to a college that I hated...got a 3.4 the 1st semester, so I transfered to a state university until I could figure things out.
...got a 3.75
im doing very well in school now. I am a very hard worker and have changed my academic life around. High School wasnt very important to me so I blew off the SATs and went to a college I hated..
the thing is, for NYU they tell you NOT to retake the SATs so I dont know what to do.
I have done well in college, so I think that should count MORE than SATs but i dont know how they look at it.

will this SAT score kill any chance I have?

what is the general education thing? would I have a chance at that?
