NYU transfer.. chances.. thanks

well... here is some background about myself..

graduated high school in 1999
with GPA of 2.7
didn't take SAT at the time

now i have been going to a community college in CA
i would have 60 units by this fall with GPA of 3.95 (unweighted)
applying for NYU College of Arts and Sciences as a transfer
finished math up to Precalculus.. finished all the english requirements
Macro/Micro Econ.. Statistic.. and most of the hard classes...
with good recommendation letters from instructors and counselor..

i had work experiences as a computer technician
Organize kids and teen community events
and an officer in school's asian club

it's probably not that great of a stat.. just want to know what are the possibilities to get into NYU...

You stand a very good chance at getting in.

anyone has anymore comments? thanks

You would be a shoe in if you were a native new yorker. NYU takes in few out of state transfers since sooo many people apply there but you do have a shot its just out of state students have to be near perfect for admission.

NYU is not a state school. Residency has no affect on admission.

what do you think of the possibility? descent chance?
some people mentioned about continue school of education.. does that offer Econ major?

Does anyone think i can get in as a transfer student to barnard or nyu with these stats?

I am currently a freshman at Bryn Mawr College
gpa above 3.5
competitive private hs gpa 3.54 sats 1300
plenty of internships and extra curriculars both in hs and college

Thank yOu!

ln6104, I'm a high school senior and looking at both Bryn Mawr and Barnard for college. Just wondering, why do you want to transfer out of Bryn Mawr? Thanks!

The academics at Bryn Mawr are fabolous but the life ina suburbian town and a campus was not for me. I m from the nyc area and i need to be ina big city so i am able to go out and do things. It is difficult to get around here. the campus is beautiful , however, very quiet. Also the field of study i want to enter warrants that i be in a big city where i can start making connections nad do internhsips. However, i definitly recommend Bryn Mawr and it is a grea tschool , despite some cultish traditions, but its not the place for me

Nyu Transfer

Hi. I have just completed my freshman year in college. I was wondering if anyone thinks I have a chance of being accepted to NYU (College of Arts and Sciences).

I attend an okay private college.
First Semester GPA- 3.86
Second Semester GPA- 3.80
Overall GPA- 3.83
High School Average- B
SAT- 1530/2400

My brother goes to Stern.
My father went to NYU Dental.
I have a great letter of recommendation.

Thanks...

TT is in

Godden has a good chance as w ell

Thanks... does anyone else have any thoughts?

Ehhh...More people apply to NYU from the area than anywhere else in the country. This also means that they have more students from the area that anywhere else in the country. Seeing as how they stress diversity, you could easily infer that being out of state would actually be a slight advantage (not enough to become a major influence, but enough that the University recognizes geographic residence in the applications).

TT, I would say you are in considering everything else checks out. NYU is very holistic in their decision making, so a good essay, a good rec. and ec's are important as well.

I am currently in the process of transfering to NYU Stern for the Fall Semester. I was wondering how high my chances are of getting into Stern. My information is as follows:

Current University: Georgetown University
High School GPA: 4.5 weighed, 4.0 unweighed
College GPA: 3.874 (4 A's and 1 B+)
Courses Taken: Humanities & Writing, Calculus I, Financial Accounting, Introduction to Sociology, Theology (Problem of God), Theology (Theological Implications of the Holocaust), Managerial Accounting, Introducation to Psychology, International Business, English (The English Renaissance)
SAT: 660 Math, 570 Reading (not too happy with this score)
Recommendation: From English Professor who did his Masters at NYU (since they only ask for one recommendation from Transfers)
Essay: In my essay (which I am still in the process of editing) I am discussing the reasons why I want to leave my current university, which are mostly personal reasons, not to mention Stern will provide me with a better education in my intended field.

Based on these facts, do you think there is a good chance of me getting into Stern? Georgetown is a pretty challenging, not to mention prestigious, university, but I think that Stern would be a better choice since their Business School is ranked higher.

Anyone from anywhere can get in, but the cost will be A LOT more than NY residence. I mean like crazy ridiculous amounts of money here.

^ facepalm

Reading the messages above I don’t know if I should even apply…

I’m a CA community college kid, English Major, Early childhood developmental psychology minor. (I want to be a teacher)

High School:
Awful GPA : 2.78
AP English, no other tests

Extra Curricular:
Cheer Captain
Leader of the Asian Media club

College:
GPA 3.62
I’ve taken all of the general ed required classes

Extra Curricular:
Project leader for large bay area volunteer network
Volunteer at chinatown under-privilaged preschool
Camp councilor for teen travel group in europe every summer
(I’ve been to 12 countries through this program)
Member of three school clubs
Anti-cut cuts protest organizer

Should I apply to NYU…?

Why would you want to transfer from Georgetown to Stern? I go to Stern, it’s not really worth it. And you’ll probably get little to no financial aid.
