Nyu?

Hi, I was wondering at my chances for NYU as a transfer

GPA in high school was a 3.0 unweighted
GPA in College, around 32 credits was a 3.8-3.9

I got a 27 on the ACT

ECs are worked as an intern internationally
went to other countries to volunteer
violin section leader
1st division violinist for 6 years

RECs should be no problem, my math and economics teacher really likes me
and my writing is top notch

this is freshmen ---> sophomore transfer. I'm just estimating my GPA, since if I don't get above a 3.8, I probably won't even try for NYU

I'm at Western Michigan University

and taking the most rigorious courses I can.

this is for the NYU business school

You haven't indicated your SAT Subject Test scores, but I can tell you that based upon what you posted here, you have only a 25% chance of admission to NYU.

NYU judges early transfers (freshman to sophomore year) upon both the secondary school and college results--and your secondary school results, along with that 27 on the ACT, is not enough to get you in;--Sorry.

Good luck with transfering to your other choices.

Hmm, the reason I ask was because they said something about secondary school doesn't matter too much as long as I hit above 32 credits during my Freshmen year. The person I talked to also said something about not needing my ACT scores.

Are you talking about SAT II? The reason I don't have them is because a lot of colleges in Michigan area (I was gonna stay in state) - don't do SAT II, wasn't too sure if NYU needed it for college.

Stern is hard. Just don't expect any financial aid. If you need aid, look further.

Check NYU's website. Two SAT II tests are strongly encouraged. Calcruzer is right. Colleges evaluate students based on performance over a period of several years. If you wait another year, far more credit will be given to your two years in college and you'll have a better shot. If you try now, they will only be getting one year of grades from college - certainly not enough to make a coherent decision, so they'll use your high school transcript as well. As of now, I don't think you'll get into Stern. It's the most competitive school within NYU (besides maybe Tisch)...if you still want to try, retaking the ACT (or trying the SAT) as well as the SAT II tests and getting good scores will give you a better shot.

mmmk

I'll probably go ask the advisors again. I was thinking that was a bit too... shifty and kinda easy for a school like NYU not to really consider high school much if you've finished your first year

any idea for any other business schools that are good that would fit in my range?

I'm already considering U of M (friend goes there) but I really doubt I'll get into that one as well...

also, if they see such a drop in high school gpa, as in my freshmen --> junior year, and then they see a rise from senior then to college, any idea if you know they'll take it as a bad thing? or as oh hey, he's improving?

I really dislike my college atm. way too much partying, library closes way too early, and a lot of teachers just don't care.
