Hello,

I'm new to forums, so please be patient if I didn't do this correctly.

I'm currently a student in a two year community college, looking to transfer into a four year school. I'm looking at both schools in the state I live in (NJ), and California schools.

Before I list the schools, some information about my grades, scores, etc.

Cumulative GPA: 2.6 (Due to family problems and personal issues, I messed up very badly and got horrible grades the first year, including failing a summer course. My second year, I was on the dean's list- all A's- the fall semester, and did okay in spring).

Spring semester's GPA: 2.8

My SAT: 1860
Reading:680
Writing:640
Math:510

I plan on retaking this in the fall for a better score.

I have 52 credits in total.

In high school, I had a 3.4 GPA, although I graduated in 2010, so I don't know how much that counts for. I also had honors/AP classes.

I currently work part time (25-40 hours a week) as a bakery assistant, and did x-country and robotics club in high school, and competitive fencing on my own. I no longer do the sports/club due to knee injuries and time constraints, but I do work all year.

My intended major at this moment is law, however I'm still in the process of deciding, and my choose to transfer as a social science major if that will help my chances.

The schools in NJ I'm looking at are:
Rutgers
The College of New Jersey (TCNJ)
Montclair
Stockton

The California Colleges are:
California State- Monterey Bay
Layola Marymount University
University of California- Berkeley
University of San Fransisco

I understand that many of the California schools are extremely competitive, and should be reach schools, but I'm still hoping.

I also have the coming fall and spring semester in order to raise my GPA, and was going to talk to my counselor to see if there was more I can do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows anything else that can improve my chances, please feel free to share.

Thank you!
