Chances @ top LACs(amherst and williams)

I'm thinking about transferring from Florida state university.

College gpa:projected to be to 3.7

H.S GPA:3.3 uw and 3.7 weighted(only academic classes)

Test scores:25 ACT(one subscore point away from a 26.ugh.):28 english,26 math,23 reading,24 science

strong essays

like a 20% chance,maybe?

Those test scores are a killer. How are your recommendations and college activities?

Chances are low, even if you are currently a sophomore.

ugh. maybe i'll take the SAT and shoot for at least a 1300.

thanks,though!

what about Colgate, that was my 3rd choice?

oh and i'm hispanic...brownie points?

Absolutely, but it will not mitigate your poor high school transcript unless you are currently a sophomore. Williams is rather out of the cards for you simply because, like Stanford et al, they accept so few transfers that serious deficiencies in any component of the application will surely disqualify you, as there are many other URM applicants with stronger records in both college and high school. Apply anyway and shoot for the stars, but have some safeties and matches in mind too if you are intent on transferring.

ah.what about colgate?

do i have a decent shot?

These were the transfer rates for fall 2006:
Williams - 7.5%
Amherst - 17.3%
Colgate - 30.1%
So yes, relatively speaking you probably have a better chance at Colgate. Decent shot is a much harder question.
