Hey all. I am about to start my sophomore year at a liberal arts school in Kentucky. It's one of the best schools in Kentucky, but I hate it (Georgetown College to anyone who has ever been/saw on a map/thought remotely about Kentucky). I am from Louisville by the way so don't imagine I am a country bumpkin. I'm planning to apply to Stanford to attend NEXT year (2007-2008) and I'd like to know a little bit about my chances if you guys would be nice enough to comment. Here are some stats:

HIGH SCHOOL:
-gpa- 4.0 (unweighted) 4.6 something (weighted)
-Rank- 7/100
-ACT Composite- 32
-Took all advanced courses
-Various activities (not including these because I know transferring as a Junior, they will care less about my high school stuff)
-National AP Scholar
-Various other stuff (Who's Who Among American High School Scholars, Principal's List, etc)
-AP credits-
AP US History (5)
AP Psychology (5)
AP Calculus AB (3)
AP English Composition (3)

COLLEGE:
-I will apply to transfer as a Junior with approx. 80 credits (at least 12 from AP and the others from Georgetown).
-Intended double major at Georgetown is Comp Sci. and Math, but I would possibly switch to engineering if accepted to Stanford.
-gpa-- 4.0 (unweighted) I'm not sure about weighted.
-Honors student
-National Dean's List
-Courses- these are courses I have taken up to Fall 2006 and also include my schedule for Fall 2006. I have gotten an A in them or expect to get an A in them this fall.

Computer Science I
Lab for Computer Science I

-Member of Georgetown's academic team (State Champions)
-Involved in various campus social activities (Freshman family groups, songfest, etc)
-Tutor in Computer Science and Math courses (I have tutored both individuals and classes since my second semester as a freshman)
-I work as a computer lab proctor at Georgetown
-Received the Freshman Writing Award at Georgetown (given to one freshman who shows exceptional skills in writing)
-Member of Alpha Lambda Delta

I know chances are slim because, after all, it is Stanford. How slim do you think they are? Is transfering as a junior a disadvantage?

Thanks!
Erika

your stats look pretty good to me, what are your SAT scores?

In Kentucky, we aren't required to take SATs-- just ACTs. I wasn't sure about what Stanford would say about this as I would transfer in as a Junior anyway. Would I have to take them/could I even take them as a Sophomore in college?

yes, you need to take them and you can. check out this link, there is alot of important info you need http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_3_transfers.html
also check out the profile of admitted students

thanks! the site also says this:
"While Stanford accepts both the ACT and the SAT Reasoning Test, we did not provide data for ACT test results here, as the number of applicants submitting ACT scores is not statistically significant." so are you sure SAT is required?

yes sat or act, you decide, but it is much less common which may work to adv or disadv.
but I have heard people say it is not that important after 2 years but you need to take it nonetheless

yea i know the ACT is much less common. I dont know a lot about the SATs because i didnt take them but my ACT score is equivalent to a 1450 SAT score. (this is before they changed the SAT-- which i dont know about). How is this score compared to Stanford transfer applicants? I just didn't think they would pay too much attention to my test scores since I'll be technically a Junior when i transfer (i am 2 classes away from Junior status now).

^^ that is just SAT I

they recommend sat 2's

even with 2 years college experience and As in higher level math and science courses?

I am just repeating what the website says "The SAT Subject Tests are strongly recommended but not required"

I understand, thanks. So if I didn't take the SAT IIs are my chances blown you think?

you can still take them

yea, i know but i was just asking if i chose not to for another reason. I found that the website does say "We require either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT, and we strongly recommend that students taking the new SAT also take two SAT Subject Tests." I wasn't in high-school when the new SAT was administered, but I am just pondering if the ACT is enough since it says "studnets taking the new SAT" are recommended to take SAT IIs.

it is worded differently in the faqs section that makes it seem it is recommmended for all.

"Does a transfer applicant have to submit test scores?
Yes. All transfer applicants, including international students, must submit official scores from either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT to be considered for admission. The SAT Subject Tests are strongly recommended but not required."

oo gotcha. i will probably take them but disregarding them, you said my chances seemed decent?

to me they look good, but take that with a grain of salt just apply and see what happens, it doesn't matter how good your chances are, you either get in or you don't so just do your best and see what happens. Your stats make you a good candidate.

thanks for the input!
erika

for what it's worth, i am transferring this fall to Stanford without having ever taken the SAT IIs.

are you transferring in as a junior or sophomore jacobian?
