Hi Kyle,

I’m going to the U of A as well and am looking to transfer.

Based on a phone call that I had with Stanford admissions, they in particular want to know a fantastic reason ‘why’ it is that you want to transfer. Generally the reason they get is that Stanford offers a program that your university doesn’t, and they look favorably upon such reasons.

They also told me that demonstrating to compensate for your university’s weakness in a program via internships is also highly favorable to the application.

On top of that, the usual stuff applies: GPA, rigor, essay quality, etc.

It would be my suspicion that your chances of transferring are highly dependent on what your major is (and subsequently, what your focus is). Transferring seems to be a very school-dependent thing.

I think college reps get a lot of “I really wanted to go to this school but I was rejected, so here I am again” type essays, and I know that neither of ours should look anything like that if we want to successfully get out of the hell hole that is the U of A :)

what type of school are you looking for more specifically?

small liberal arts college? large state university? mid sized public university? etc.

^^Stanford, for example, is extremely difficult to transfer to, accepting about 2% of applicants (not saying don’t apply! it’s just really competitive)
