Chances: Umass Amherst

Really just wanted to make a quick post to get some opinions after just having submitted all my application materials…

Graduated from high school last year with a 2.2 GPA - was in a few honors classes and 1 AP if that means anything but my GPA was trash regardless

Currently attending Suffolk University as a bio major - finished first semester with a 3.6 and joined a club as well (National Biological Honors Society)… Umass states that most successful transfer students have at least a 2.7
Most CommonApp schools require a mid-second semester report to evaluate progress in classes which the student is currently enrolled in - got mine filled out with 2 A’s, 2 B+, and a C+ (in bio, oops)
Umass doesn’t require recommendations for transfers but I already had 2 filled out for another school I’m applying to so I submitted those as well
1060 on new SAT which I took back in October 2016… really didn’t want to retake it…

I think I’ve improved a decent amount now that I’m in college but still concerned about my past performance… I know high school is less relevant as you enter college but it hasn’t even been a year since I graduated so I don’t know how they’ll look at it… what do you guys think?

Thanks so much for your time

anyone?

Our son is kind of in the same situation. I would say you have a good chance to transfer to any other state university but Amherst is going to be a reach. Good luck! The state posts transfer requirements here.http://www.mass.edu/foradmin/admissions/documents/DHEAdmissionsStandardsReferenceGuide%20June%202016.pdf

I’m a little late but I was a transfer as well. Your HS stats wont matter depending on how many credits you have completed. If you have 28 or more, you wont need to send in your HS transcript. If you only have one semester at Suffolk under your belt, chances are you’ll have to. Seeing as your SAT is below average for the school and your HS GPA is rather low I would wait until you have 28+ credits.

I transferred with a ~3…5 GPA and my SAT wasn’t that much higher than yours at 1110, but I didn’t have to give them my HS transcript.

Yeah that makes perfect sense… the thing is I sent in my mid semester report which is pretty decent and adds up to 29 credits since I got 17 last semester and currently working on 12 but I don’t know how they’ll look at it

Got in!
