Chances Wash U

Hey I am currently a sophomore at Goucher College in Towson MD. I want very badly to transfer to Washington University in St. Louis. In high school I was a pretty mediocre student, I believe my final GPA was something like 3.1 and my SAT's were 1260. I did a lot of extra currics though which I wont list and some of them were pretty serious. Also a couple of varsity letters. I also had a great essay and good teacher recs.

At Goucher College I have a 3.75 GPA after a full year and it will hopefully be closer to 3.8 after next semester. My mother is an alum of Wash U. I am head fundraiser for the Goucher Democrats. I play on the club frisbee team. I write for the school paper. I am currently working for my congressman in DC and I will hopefully be able to get a really solid rec from him or atleast a high up in his office. I will also get really good teacher recs.
So what are my chances at Wash U? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And follow up question, what other schools should I look at. I like Goucher but I do not feel very challenged and I have found the poli sci department (my major) to be biased and mediocre. So if you know of any solid schools with good po sci departments let me know. I am looking small 2-5 thousand kids. Thanks a lot.

anyone? please

It seems like you're a competitive applicant. Since you're applying after two years of school, your HS stats shouldn't be much of a factor and your college resume looks strong. Work on your essays and keep the GPA up and I think you should be fine. Good luck to you, I'm sure you'll get accepted to a great school.

I applied to Wash U and got in (didn't choose to go there because they wouldn't accept a lot of my transfer credits after my first year). I don't like to predict stats because college admissions happens to be a somewhat random process. But keep up your good work in college! My advice to you is this: since Wash U is rolling, apply early! You're chances will probably be a little better, and you'll hear an earlier response. I hope that this helps!
