hello, id like to know my chances for chemical engineering at:
U of minnesota- twin cities, rutgers, virginia tech, florida state, nc state, arizona state

international student, white, latino

ok ECs, over 150 volunteer hours, soccer, tennis, UN model
1810 sat: 610 math, 590 reading, 610 writing
retook it on december and ill probably get above 700 in maths, so lets say 1950 sat

we dont rank in my school but im pretty sure id be top 25 percent

we dont calculate gpa here, but i have
an average of around 5.3 out of 7 with IB courses ( International Baccalaurate) which is like AP but it is the british system,
im not sure if they take this into account but it is a highly respected course around the world
i take chemistry, economics and history at high level
and maths, english, spanish at standard level

my predicted scores are around 33 ib points out of 45

thankyou, post any links if you want me to chance back

I assume a 5.3/7 IB average would be like a 3.2-3.4 unweighted GPA. Not sure for how much HL and SL courses will affect weighting, though.

U Minnesota: Match
Rutgers: Match (I assume you want to get into SAS/SEBS, reach otherwise)
VA Tech: Low match-match(non-architecture)/Reach (architecture)
FSU: Match
NCSU: Match (NCSU is protectionistic, although maybe not to the same extent as UNC)
ASU: Safety

I feel like you have solid chances at all of those schools. I’m sure you’ll get into ASU. The others, probably, especially if you get your SAT score up. Idk how being an international student will play in, but your status as a URM will definitely help.

@Catria: yeah, thats my main concern. im not sure to what extent the admissions people understand how the IB works, how to weigh each course and how to compare IB scores to GPA

I don’t know much about the schools on your list but you have an excellent application…the only thing that might be a bit lacking is your SAT scores so if you have time you should retake that.
Otherwise I think you have an excellent schedule and gpa–congrats on the IB by the way I know it’s a tough program.
Thanks so Mich for chancing me and I wish you all the best of luck with your applications!!!

I personally am unfamiliar with the IB system as well, but I agree with most of the people above. You have a strong chance of getting into most of these schools(specifically Arizona State). Your ECs are strong and I believe being an international student will help you as well. Since you just recently retook your SATs, hopefully you did better because that will help your chances at Virginia Tech, but overall I think you should get accepted to most, if not all, of these schools. Good luck!
