Chances with below average Test scores

Hey guys I already asked a few of you guys what my chances Are but just wanted a few more opinions.
Firstly I feel I have pretty good stats overall:
GPA: 3.83
Class Rank: 25/538 (top 5%)
Course rigor: 10 AP classes (A’s in 9 of them)
Pre-ap classes before that
Essays: 9/10
Teacher reccomendation: 10/10
AP scores:
U.S. History: 5
Psych: 5
English Lang: 4
(More to come senior year)
Extracurriculars:
National Honor Soceity
100 hours community service
Marching band for 3 years
(Two time state soloist)
Leadership conferences

Now hear comes the bad part
I scored a 1700 total sat score and a 24 act.
I know this aren’t as high as the averages but would I really get rejected just because of a test score.
My GPA and Class Rank is above NYU’s averages in some schools.
I am applying for CAS or LSP.
What do you guys think, can I at least get into LSP with lower test scores?

Your GPA and class rank are great, with some decent ECs. Since NYU is very holistic, you’ll still have a decent chance for CAS as long as your recs and essays are good and you sold yourself well on your application. I think you have a good shot at LSP anyway. Just remember – averages are only just averages; half of the people accepted into the school had lower.

@adreamer22 Thanks! I try to keep telling myself that the score average is just an average. But I always see people accepted on CC with much high scores but I guess that’s a minority of the total accepted students anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you have a good chance! Although people say that when u have low test scores and good GPA the universities may discuss the rigor of the school, I think your academic records speak for themselves. I got in NYU with a 1880 SAT, that was below the average as well (and my stats were generally lower than yours) so don’t panic!
Are you a junior or a senior? if you have time maybe try to retake the tests!

plus, do you know that you can use APs instead of the standard tests?https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/apply/freshmen-applicants/instructions/standardized-tests.html

@paovaci Thanks! I am a senior so I cannot retake the tests if I wanted to. This was my second SAT and I improved only slightly even though I studied a lot. I knew about the AP scores but I don’t have a science/math score which they require to send AP instead of SAT.
