Do I have any chance at Rice Interim Decision? Does applying interim decision give a boost to the application? Also, it would be gladly appreciated if you could suggest solid safety, and match schools. Thank you for your help!

Bump

I doubt I have a chance of getting in.

you're right

You don't really ever know. You show passion by attending a magnet school with specialization. You are from out of state, which can make it slightly easier to get in. Your test scores were very good. I would definitley try. Rice understands that it's harder to get a good GPA in a very hard HS school. Make sure essays are great and go for the interview, if you can, to show interest.

Rice and the other schools where you have posted your "Chances with Low GPA/moderately High SAT" OP are highly competitive.

You should consider whether you want to spend your college years at a school where your academic track record places you in the bottom 10% of the student population or whether you want to go to a school where you are competing with students who are your peers academically.

Consider some schools where your academics place you in the middle 50% of their class profile rather than schools where you are in the bottom 25%.

You will be better off graduating in the top 20% from a less prestigious school than graduating in the bottom 20% from a prestigious school.

m1817, but just like lauras said, employers/grad schools would understand a lower GPA from a more prestigious school just like they would understand a lower GPA from a magnet school. Of course you wouldn't do as well in the context of many other very smart people.

Honestly, should I even bother applying?

If you think you'd like to go to rice, then you should apply. You never know what will happen. To be honest - i don't think your chances are any worse than anyone elses.

I really hope you're right. Thank you for the encouragement.

There's nothing to loose by appying. You will never know otherwise.

I think you should apply as well. Theres nothing wrong with a B average in high school or college, if you are planning to go to grad/med school you want it as high as possible though.

Go for it.
